How hard is it really to change the sights on a XDm.

I have replaced the stock sights on a few Glocks with just a small vice, brass hammer and a punch. How much harder is it really to swap sights on my XDm-.40? All this internet talk about even gunsmiths damage the sights or gun has me doubting myself in performing this what should be a simple task. I even saw some asshat taking his stock front site off with an airhammer, a friggen AIR HAMMER. Whats the real deal.

Been shooting XD's for about two years. All I've EVER heard was it's a factory job! I've sent two in for night sights and they came back looking good as new.

I just find it hard to believe that they can be that much tighter and harder to change then all the other guns out there.

I used a vise, hammer, punch and a chunk of 2x4 to replace mine.

Didnt even jack up the origional front sight as interweb people say will break. This is using the 2x4 as a backing for the slide. Nothing fancy

I'll second ajames! Damn good job, fast turnaround (like 24 hours), great prices. Last I knew it was free installation if you bought the sights from him. His prices on sights are good too.

I replaced mine on my XDM by myself...Wasn't hard at all...But, I have alot of gunsmithing tools.
I do all the work on my own guns. I don't send mine out ...

It's a bit@h! I've done it on three and it was a pain each time. Vise, maul, nylon puch will get you there, just be patient. Also doesn't hurt to soak them down with break free the night before. Have fun!

Can you provide contact info for ajames? Google search pulls up Springer Precision but no luck finding ajames. Thanks.

My understanding is that the sights were put on the slide when it was still hot, thus the extremely tight fit - much tighter than a Glock, believe it. I am a big time DIY guy and I send it to Ajames - LOL! He does a great job for a great price, you won't regret it.
