Search for HI cap 45 has lead me to the XDM-.45
I've been wanting a high cap .45 for a while.
Originally I wanted a RIA or Para hi cap 1911, but I've heard shitty things about both, and I'm looking for something that will make me smile out of the box.
I then got turned on to the CZ 97, but trying to find holsters or mags for it is next to impossible, and I don't really consider 10 rds "hi cap"
For the last couple weeks, I've been considering a G21 or G21SF, until today.
I held an XDM .45 for the first time, and I like the trigger, grip, sights and overall function and form of the weapon a lot better than the G21.
That said, everything I've found seems to say the G21 is reliable beyond reason and plenty accurate out of the box.
I can't find too much in the way of reliability testing of the XDM, I'm hoping someone here can twist my arm and pull the trigger on this thing.
Why should I buy it?
I spent some time with one on the range today as a matter of fact. Picked it up last week and went to ring it out. Only had 100 rounds to play with but it fired them all without any problems. Very accurate, hardly noticed the recoil, trigger was great. Overall I am very happy with it and wish I had more ammo with me.
for hicaps, the xd/xdm is it!
i really don't stray much(from SA)due to the first-rate customer service; it is legendary!
i have an xdm in 45 but haven't shot it a lot but have an xd tactical w/tungsten guide rod that is excellent.
unless you have Big hands, the xdm will most likely be your best fit, even having more capacity.
The XDM's are great guns. So are the FNP 45's. Worth taking a look at.
My two biggest concerns (no brainer) are reliability, first, and accuracy second.
I want to know it will go bang when I pull the trigger, no matter what, and I can hit a man size target at 50-75m
Will I get that from the XDM?
oh and how do they like crappy steel cased russian ammo?

1000 rds done the pipe on mine, no problems nor malfunctions. Never shot over 50 yds but all rds in 10, 9, and 8 ring.
Never shot steel cased ammo.

Never shot any.
I currently have all Glocks. 2 .45's (21,30) and a 9mm (19). A coworker wanted a another .45 and decided to go with the XDm over a G21. He loves it so of course I needed to shoot it. Now I have one order along with 2 other associates. IMO you actually have to try to miss with this gun. Trigger kinda reminds me of a smooth revolver being fired in dbl action. Feels 1000 times better in my hand then a Glock does and I do like Glocks. Recoil seems lighter the my 21 also.
As far as reliability goes after a few trips to the range and going through various drills the XDm was flawless. In fact on the last day we were out the XDm was gtg and the G21 had 2 malfunctions ( both feed issues). This will be a carry gun for me so I am trusting my life with it as I do with my Glocks. I have heard of XD's being used as duty weapons but have no first hand knowledge of this just stuff I have read.
All that said my suggestion would be if you can shoot both and see what feels better to you and what you are more comfortable with.
I have an XDm 9, and it's probably my second favorite gun. Maybe third, but only because I have a pair of .45's (HK45, Springfield MC Operator) that I prefer. Mostly, it's a caliber snob thing. I just like shooting 45 more. If the XDm 45 is anything like the 9 version, buy it. Buy it right now. Personally, I've owned an FNP-45, and I didn't like it all that much. Something about it just never felt right to me.
I really can't articulate why, but I put about 1000 rounds through it, and never really liked it. On paper, that gun is amazing. 15+1, lightweight, factory threaded barrel with thread protector, tall trijicon night sights, SUPER SMOOTH reloads, safe-fire-decock with the ability to carry it cocked and locked. As an aside, I heard that some people were having problems with WWB ammo, due to the OAL of the stuff. I never did with my FNP, and I shot a bunch of the stuff. I never had a single stoppage in 1000 or so rounds. Like I said, it reads like a dream list for a suppressor host high cap .45ACP. I just never really liked it enough. It's a $1,000 gun, or near enough, and I'm not keeping that kind of cabbage tied up in a gun I don't even like much.
My next .45 is going to be either a Springfield XDm45, or maybe a S&W M&P (Depending on what the stats on it turn out to look like) basically for varietys sake. I'm not worried about the reliability of either platform, but I'm leaning towards the XDm45 because of Springer's amazingly awesome and considerate customer service. YMM,OC,V (Your Mileage May, Of Course, Vary).
ETA)
Me making brass with my old FNP.

OP, you might want to spend some time
here.
Lots of info for you.
Good luck. I think that you'll like an XDm.

I have been carrying an XD .45 ACP (not the XDm) for almost three years. I have put well over a thousand rounds through it without a single failure on the gun's part. I had issues with some mags that cracked at the weld and caused feeding problems but that was taken care of with a call to Springfield and free replacement mags. Everything on my pistol is still original, nothing has been replaced or "upgraded." As far as accuracy is concerned, I say it is excellent. Of course, that is because the pistol is capable of better accuracy than I am as a shooter. The best example I can give you is that a friend of mine who is a very skilled shooter dumped an entire mag, rapid fire, into the head of a "B.O.B" dummy from about 15 yards away, The stuffing was flying everywhere! I don't have any experience with the "M" series, but these pistols are great! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have put a couple hundred rounds of Blazer steel cased ammo through it without any issues in extraction or noticeable excessive wear.

Thanks for the info!
I have a full size regular xd-45 that has been flawless for me. It is very accurate and so far with about 700 rounds down the pipe with no malfuntions. They are great pistols in my opinion.
New xdm 45 4.5 with about 400 rounds using pmc ball ammo and cci blazer and not 1 issue. My 1st big weapon if you call a life long shooter using a duramatic 22lr. 1 heck of a differant boom. I sure do love plinkin with the new 45 though iam still workin on my aim. Quite a bit differnt then the 22 pistol.
tag for info. i think i want one too now.
Just traded my Para P13-45 for one at a gun show today. You'll love it!
