Anybody here have problems with Ranger 230 gr. in his XD45?
I recently picked up a XD45 Compact, which I hope will replace my SIG P239 9mm as my daily carry gun. The P239 has been 100% reliable, which is an absolute requirement. So far, the XD45 has had no issues, although I've only put a couple of hundred rounds through it.
I fired some Federal HST +P 230 gr. rounds, and while their rep as a self-defense round is good, they had a lot of recoil, which I felt was not only beating up the gun but was making it harder for me to get back on target quickly. So I was thinking about carrying Ranger 230 gr. +P (RA45TP), which supposedly has less recoil while still offering good terminal ballistics.
I did some googling on this round in the XD45, and some people have had FTF problems. I always fire 100 or so of a given round to check reliability before carrying it, but it seems to me that the thousands of rounds fired by other folks should be taken into consideration as well. So, I came here to ask you guys for your experiences. Have you had any issues with this round, and if so, what hollow point round have you found to be reliable in your XD45?
i reload so i can't help you there but i can say that i wish i could hurry up and finish my stash of 230 gr so i could order some 200s.
they are much quicker getting back on(less kick)target.
check and see if the Ranger is available in a 200 gr.
Update: Just sent 75 rounds of RA45TP downrange with no issues. I decided to save the rest for carry ammo; I'm about to order some more so I can test it further, but so far the gun has been 100% with everything I've tried.
I carry and have shot several hundred RA45T out of my Compact without a single problem. I have tried the +P but suffered from a failure to hit target.
At what distance are you shooting?
7-15 yds is max that I would shoot; beyond that, unless cornered - might make a break for it.

does your ftf involve the bullet nose diving where the primer end pops up before the heavier bullet end so the slide grabs the tail end of the cartridge and jams the bullet into the mag? i had that problem with my xd45 even with 230fmj bullets. i replaced the mag springs with agp extra power mag springs, which eliminated my problems. i think my problems were with 1st gen xd45 mags without the springfield armory logo on the mag body.
i've heard SA will replace the pre-SA marked mags. is that what you did?

I haven't had any FTFs; I just read about a couple. IIRC they didn't provide any details. It was on xdtalk. I've replaced the springs in my 13 round mag with AGP; I was going to put one in the 10 round mag as well, but the last round wouldn't load. I read somewhere that somebody snipped off one of the coils (the stock 10 round and 13 round springs look identical except that the 13 round has one more coil), but I tried that and I still couldn't load the last round. I ended up putting the stock spring from the 13 round mag in the 10 round. I was a little leery of doing this, but I fired a couple of hundred rounds (FMJ and RA45TP) from both mags with no issues... the gun is still failure-free. Incidentally, my 13 round mag has the logo, but the 10 round doesn't.
I just received another 100 rounds of RA45TP. I'll post an update after the next range trip.

nope. still have my shiny 1st gen mags. i bought a newer xd45 compact tactical (swapped slides with my xd45 service, so i have a compact and a fullsize tactical), which came with the matte finish and SA marked mags. i dont shoot it much, but the new mags work fine. i also just checked my mag stash. the xd45 10rd compact mag doesn't have any SA marking on it, but the 13rd mag my compact came with does have the stamp.
