Just to make sure no one is confused, Springfield's current basic military 1911 version is their
GI.45 which is their version of a US Govt issued 1911 A1. Springfield describes it
HERE as:
This is the bread-and-butter version of John Browning’s design that made the 1911 famous. All GI models are built with a forged frame, slide and barrel and include low-profile military sights, standard magazine well and spur hammer, standard ejection port, arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop, vertical slide serrations, hardwood U.S. grips and titanium firing pin.
Their next model up is called the
Mil-Spec which isn't mil-spec but a step up from the base model GI.45. Springfield describes it
HERE as:
A step up from the G.I., the Mil-Spec™ includes many improvements utilized by the U.S. military during the 1911’s years of service. These features include: High-profile 3-Dot sights, high-hand grip, beveled magazine well, polished feed ramp and throated barrel, lower and flared ejection port and angled slide serrations.
Springfield doesn't make a
'GI Mil-Spec' model as has been mentioned in various posts and threads.
I purchased a parkerized Mil-Spec 'NM' version in March and am very happy with it. It's very like the 45 I carried in the Army. I got it for the going rate here in Denver at the time; $600. Besides being surprisingly accurate for a basic 1911, it's been very reliable right out of the box. My hat is off to Springfield for their fine pistol.

While you're obviously correct, some of the literature they include in the box with the GI's is confusing. I'll post a pic when I get home as proof.

Yep, I know exactly what you mean. That's why I mentioned it because they don't make it clear. Also, their older versions of the Mil-Specs and the 'N' versions can be different in that I've seen NIB 'N' versions without a ss barrel and bushing. It makes the whole thing confusing. I'd recommend that you get a 'NM' version as that has all the bells as advertized and anecdotal evidence suggests their quality may be a bit better than the 'N' vesions.
My 3" Micro Compact is for sale or trade on The Equipment Exchange Board if anyones looking for the Small GI 45

This is what makes matters worse. This is what Springfield puts on the outside of the 5" Parked GI:
For Lord only knows what reason, they put the words "Mil-Spec" in there. That's where a lot of confusion comes from.
On topic, it looks like the OP ordered exactly what he wanted. Congrats!
Very interesting on Springfield's labeling fiasco. No wonder everyone is confused, it starts with the Manufacturer!!

True enough but you'd think that the manufacturer would pick a name and stick with it.
