Looking for info on a S&W 686
I just purchased a 686 no dash with serial number ADY72XX. Can anyone give me the manufactures date for this gun? Its in good condition and I paid $375 for it. Is that a decent price?
Per SW standard catalog, between Jan 1984-Nov 1984
Also, if you have box, check the production code.
It could be a special run like a Lew Horton.
pics?
I'm thinking the Lew Horten's were 1985 but could be late 84. If it's a Lew Horten 3" round butt I'd be willing to give you your money back.

You got a hell of a deal unless it's falling apart. Cheapest one around here that I have seen was just over $500
You stole that one, Nice score!

That's what I was thinking. I paid almost twice that....shipping and transfer fees included.
Thought I was getting a 29. Now thinking of selling it to fund the 29, but I have never sold a gun and not even shot this one.
Ain't no way in Hades that wasn't a fantastic deal for you. Congratulations!

I was trying to get it for $350 but he agreed to $375. I will be shooting it tomorrow to see how it shoots.
Are the factory wood grips still on it ? If they are they alone are worth 70 bucks .

Yea, it has the original grips on it. The guy used it as his duty gun in the late 80's but it was not fired much. It has a little holster wear but still looks good. I took it out today with my Colt Python and shot them both. They were both excellent but the Colt was just a little more accurate.
yeah you did good..

If they're the factory combat grips (finger grooved) they're worth over $100 easily - likely closer to $130 in great condition.
Yep, excellent price on that no-dash.
Does it have the 'M' stamped on the cylinder crane?
There was a factory recall on certain no-dashes.
No alarm, just fyi.

No it does not have the M stamped on it. It did not get sent back for the recall. It also just has the regular grips on it.
I purchased on 2 years ago for $350. Only had 6 rounds through it. The guy I purchased it from was given 6 months to live due to cancer. He was unloading everything he had for cheap. I just wish I had more money at the time. It is very accurate.
