Need some help on a S&W 617-2. (Value)

I was recently offered a S&W 617-2 for $475. It's the 10 shot model, SS, made in '97 or '98. My KBB of gun values lists it at (in my opinion) an absurdly low price ($375) for 95% example.

I'm not sure who's off base here, KBB or the seller?

If you guys think its a good deal, I'll buy it, but I just think I don't have the info to jump on it myself, at this point.

That's about what they sell for around here. In fact, I saw one recently that would have a hard time passing for 90% that was $499.

Six inch. I thought it would make a good companion to my 586-4 and (soon to be) 629 pre lock.

I thought about looking for a six shooter, but I ditched the idea because the 10 shot version has the same capacity as my Uncle's Beretta Neos and my brother's MKIII. So when we do our mini shooting competitions, I won't have to reload so much.

One of the guys I shoot with said the 10rd is the way to go because the cylinder travel is so short.....damn near as fast as a semi if you wanna go that fast.

That's not a raging steal but a quite good price as long as its in good clean shape. The Blue Book can be useful for some things but its only a reference and doesn't always keep up with the market. I love my 617 (4" 6-shot), its a real shooter.

I have it in my possession now. It APPEARS to be very clean, and lock up is tight, finish without any serious issues. You can tell its been shot extensively, but not abused. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, and possibly a range report, if I have some down time tomorrow afternoon.

Nice pistol and a good deal as well. I prefer the older K22's but would jump all over a M617 no dash with 4in barrel if I could find one at a good price and in good condition.

K-22's are nonexistent around these parts. I've never seen one in all my NH gun shop trolling.

Some 617-2 had aluminum cylinders. Avoid them like the plague.

Mine is a 6 shooter:
