Webley Question?
Will .38 Smith and Wesson Webley shoot .38 Specials? Same thing, right? Looking at picking up older Webley....
NO!!!! First, the COL (cartridge overall length) is too long. But most importantly, the .38 S&W special is a much higher pressure round than the .38 S&W. Think trying to fit and them shoot a .357 mag in a .38 S&W Special.
NO.
First the .38 S&W is a shorter, fatter cartridge with a larger diameter bullet.
Some revolvers like the S&W Victory revolvers we gave Britain in WWII were brought back to the US and the importers reamed the cylinders out to .38 Special.
They shoot, but they're not accurate due to the smaller diameter .38 Special bullet, and second, the smaller diameter cases split in the larger diameter .38 S&W cylinder.
Last, as above, most guns made for the low pressure .38 S&W are NOT SAFE with the high pressure, far more powerful .38 Special.
First Post.
It sucks seeing as how .38 S&W runs about $35/box nowadays.

You think that's bad? ...
Try pricing a box of .455 ....
No, they are not the same as others have mentioned.
I took a picture just for when this issue comes up, which it does repeatedly.
.38 S&W on the left, .38 S&W
Special on the right.
