S & W Model 66
I went to shoot today and saw a S & W model 66 in the case. I handled it and bought it on a whim.
When I got home I see it's a 66-7. Damn thing has an internal lock.
It also has what looks like a two piece barrel.
The trigger feels decent.
I paid $420 for it.
Did I screw up?

Not too much..
$420 is a little high for a lock 66 $300-$375 is my guess.... depending on condition, but S&W 66's are getting scarce,, If you had said a 19 then yes it was a mistake.... But 66's are getting premiums in today's market with so few 357 K frames. It will be most likely harder to sell quickly if you decide to sell it but it will attract a few buyers. If it has a 2.5" barrel or no turn line you did good. My guess is if you want to turn it quickly you will take a loss but hold onto it for 5-8 years you will begin to see a very good Chance of appreciation.
Go shoot some 158 grains through it you'll feel better
Thanks. It's a 2.5" round butt. Very smooth trigger. No scratches.
Slight cylinder ring.
Lock up is good
Barrel lines up with the cylinder
Gap is good.
I just hate the frickin lock although it does'n seem to affect it.
Buying from a gun shop, it's always going to be higher than from an individual. It's just so hard to find a K frame 2.5" Smith around here.

Ya did good
PICS
lock removal
not your model but you get the idea
just found this
moon clip machine work
You handled it, purchased it, then didn't notice the lock until after you got home ? Were you blindfolded the whole time ?
Anyway, for a 2.5"er, lock or not, you did ok.
Next time, take off the blindfold !!
Locks on revolvers is pretty new to me. None of my S & W's have locks. On the Smith, it's behind the cylinder release. So no, I didn't notice it.
I have one Taurus that has a lock and it's in plain sight on the rear.
I took the lock out so it's a non issue now.

She looks good...now go and shoot it !
Mice red ramp front sight & wide ranger trigger you did very well it looks nice.

Thanks.
Here's my 2.5" M66, no dash, pinned and recessed. It's been customized by Karl Sokol at
Chestnut Mountain Sports. I had a M66-6 and the lock engaged while firing. I'll never own another centerfire S&W with the lock. After the lock gets someone killed, if S&W survives the lawsuit that follows and discontinue the lock, then I'll start buying new S&W revolvers again.
Yes, the lock can be removed, but I shouldn't have to remove something from a defensive firearm that could end up getting me killed. Until S&W gets their heads out of their asses, I'll keep buying older S&W's or new Rugers.

An Oldie: S&W 66-2, smoothest trigger job I've ever had. A classic and piece of art in my mind.
