Took my SR9 to a Handgun course yesterday
I took a course this Saturday and decided on taking the SR9 I had just put a Ghost Rocket in it the day before so almost took my S&W instead. I am happy I did not she performed flawlessly and was shooting great. A couple of things I noticed, at the course there was 15 of us I would say 9 Glocks, 2 1911's, 2 S&W M&P's, and a FNH. i was the only one out there with a Ruger. Anyway thats not a big surprise, what was a surprise was the amount of failures the Glock guys were having. Three of them were having ftf issues, its no surprise when 1911's have issues so I was almost expecting it and they did. The FNH wouldnt drop mags for hasty reload drills and had to be hand stripped. The S&W's ran flawlessly all day just like my SR9. It was a good course learned quite a bit sharpened my skills and put 500 rounds down range on the new trigger setup. Just thought I would share.

I'm not surprised. I had one FTE on my first SR9, in the first five rounds. I went through almost 1000 rounds until I sold it. The only reason I sold it was because my cousin sold me his brand new SR9 for next to nothing, and it only had 50 rounds through it. I've since put a few hundred rounds through it without a single issue. I then picked up an SR9c, and have only a hundred or so rounds through it, but it is off to a good start with no issues. All of these guns have had a variety of ammo through them. I think they are tough as tanks, and I'm betting on many, many years of great service. I love the way they feel, too.
Nice to see the modern American guns showing themselves well.
the trigger just gets better every hundred rounds. I'm liking mine.

Mine works well now, but when I first fired it the slide would not go all the way forward about once every 20 rounds or so. When it went back to Ruger for the trigger recall I put a note in the box with it and they fixed it.
I got my Ruger SR9 back in 2008 and after running it through the paces I decided on it as my daily CCW carry - slim, lightweight, and ran without any issues through several hundred rounds. I've been carrying it and instructing with it ever since. I have used it in rain, snow, and dust storms, and it doesn't quit. I will say that after I got the trigger "fix" during the recall it was more of a pleasure to shoot.
Often when students (and sometimes other intructors) see it they wonder what in the world I'm thinking, with lots of muttering about 'Ruger handguns this' and 'Ruger handguns that' - that is until they see it perform. Like the OP mentioned, it is often the only Ruger handgun on the range.
I am not easy on my firearms, and they get used hard in lots of varying conditions. I have been extremely happy with the SR9, and believe it to be a very underappreciated handgun.
Thank you for giving me the heads up on the recall.
I checked...... I get to send mine off ..... Free magazine for the trouble tho.
love mine. I could do without the safety tho.....

The trigger will get better after the fix, and you'll have a trigger shoe safety like the Glock safety trigger. I waited until after the recall was a big deal and then took my SR9 in - luckily I live about 5 miles from the factory here in AZ. They had it fixed in less than a week, and that was a while ago, so I'm guessing yours will be back to you very quickly. And if you have any of the first gen mags (roundish hold on the front instead of a rectangular slot) those are no good and Ruger will swap them out for new gen mags if you send them in with the handgun, or any other time.
As for the safety . . . . I dislike safeties. I bent my safety selector in so that it is very hard to engage. I don't use it anyways and I don't want to engage it on accident, which can be solved with proper grip but still I like to plan for every situation. I even considered removing it completely but thought better of it, though I want to take it to the factory sometime and see if there's anyway they would do that for me.
