Just ordered this and was curious if the scope mount it comes with can be taken off since I don't plan on putting one on for now ?

yup, 2 screws hold it firmly in place. May have loctite on it from the factory, I don't know if mine did, I was the 2nd owner.

Have fun with that little beast, getting it back together is a pain in the a$$

Just as a reminder: they suggest you shoot a MINIMUM of 500 rounds before disassembling it.

A soft plastic mallet will help, too.

take off the plastic grips..

spray liberally with carb cleaner,( nonchlorinated), and avoid taking it apart for cleaning, ever, leaving it for the next generation to deal with disassembly and reassembley..

my ONE A.D. to date, in 40 years of adult shooting, my one and only A.D, was done after spending 5 hours trying to put one of these back together..about 35 years ago.. I no longer take them apart and recommend the untrained to avoid same, Spray, Wipe, oil, set for next time

This is good advise. I inherited a Mark I from my father. I have taken it apart 2 times. The first time it took me 2 days to get it put back together correctly. The second time happen a few weeks ago, and I still can't get it together correctly. I really is starting to piss me off. I am going to have to take it to the shooting club and have someone there show me the "secrets" for the damn thing.

One Question: If you don't take it apart to clean it and lube it, then how do you lube the internals?

At the risk of offending someone, I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that reassembly is not as bad as the internet would lead you to believe. Watch a few YouTube videos, think about how the parts go together, and practice a little bit. It's not rocket surgery. My 11 year old daughter can do it.

Taking apart and putting back togather is nothing difficult. Just watch a video of it and youll have it. A rubber or plastic mallet is a must untill its broken-in.

Plus 2 on the "they are no big deal to field strip, clean and re-assemble" comments. They just aren't that difficult. You need to tap the receiver to the right location on the frame (not too hard) and then you have to position the hammer and strut correctly - and that's not hard once you understand how to do it.

In general, blow back operated .22s run pretty dirty and properly cleaning them on a regular basis is a good idea.

there are instructions in life that are meant to be followed. The reassembly procedure for the Ruger Mark Series is one such set.
Its not hard to do at all, just read and look at the pictures, after a couple tear downs & reassembly its no problem.
Most people over oil the sear and it won't drop into proper position.

A great video showing how to disassemble the MKIII just go to the Ruger website http://ruger.com/resources/videos.htm and then select "Ruger Tech Tips". The videos for "Mark III pistols" will be listed on the page. Good luck.

I agree.
My issue is that the gun runs fine for years and thousands of rounds and by the time it needs to be broke down, detail cleaned and put together
it has been so long I need to dig out the instructions and re teach myself

My 22/45 (same as yours except for the lower) came with the rail, but not attached.

I bet yours will come the same way if bought NIB.
