Bought my first 1911 type pistol. Kimber Ultra Carry II
I bought it second hand from a gun store. They went through it and checked it out and then fired it. I've been carrying an XD .45 and as this is my first Kimber and first 1911, is there anything I need to know ?

Clean, lube and shoot. I'd suggest sticking with 230gr. ammo in ball or HP. I use nothing but 230gr ammo in my 1911s but not only are most 1911s test fired and designed for 230gr. ammo, the smaller models will less likely have cycling issues with it.
Get yourself a dedicated paperclip for the take down and if looking for mags for carry, I'd suggest the KimPro Tac mags.
Thanks. I was checking out the takedown procedures and mine didnt have the tool. Will a regular paper clip work ? was also wondering about the ammo. I also need to order a holster, probably crossbreed ( which I have for the XD ) or a MTAC. It really feels nice in my hand and makes the XD feel like a brick. HaHa
Mine is as accurate as my 5" models. A regular paperclip will work for the take-down. You just need to bend it correctly in order to capture the guide rod while leaving enough clearance for the whole thing w/paperclip to come out toward the back. I carry mine in a Bianchi 100 during the colder months. My carry ammo is HST 230gr. but I've shot Rangers/PDX-1 and Hornady though it with zero problems.

I was breezing through the owners manual online and they give an alternate takedown procedure in which I didnt see it using the tool. Is that correct ? I will have to read it real well once I print it out.
You can take it down without the clip thingy, but it's a pain in the ass, and you'll never get the guide rod/spring assembly back in. Ask me how I know
I too switched from an XD to a Kimber for my first 1911, and I haven't looked back. You won't be disappointed.

The "tool" is just a small piece of bent wire. A paperclip can take it's place quite easily though and the entire take down procedure is easy to do. Once you do it a few times, you'll realize it's not at all complicated.
This Super Carry Ultra+ is as accurate as my full size 1911's which was a real surpise. I did polish the feedramp and now it will take any hollowpoint I try. The dual recoil springs make recoil much less than you might imagine. Certainly no more than a full size 1911. The round butt is also very comfortable. It came with KimPro mags. I also bought some Tripp mags which I can't recommend enough.
That's got the full size stock, right? I like that bobtail look but I wanted the compact. I just got a stainless Ultra II Raptor. I like the fancier metalwork on the front strap and the top of the slide.
I've been carrying mine for about two weeks now in an OWB Tagua. The only problem is that twice now, I have found the safety off. It doesn't hit the holster and I don't remember bumping into anything.
The safety has a real positive click so it's not just 'wishing' itself off.
The trigger and guard is completely covered but that is still a little unnerving. I usually carry a double action and am not used to carrying a single in condition one. While I was in the Navy, we didn't even carry our .45's with one in the chamber.
I've been checking regularly this week and it hasn't happened again so we'll see.
Good luck with your new piece.

Thanks man. Thanks guys. Yeah, Im use to carrying my XD in condition 1, without even a thumb safety. Been thinking about carrying a 1911 with a round chambered but really its the only way to go, you probably wont have time to rack the slide should you ever need it. At least it has a thumb safety. Kinda weird how your safety finds its way flipped off though.

Took the Raptor to the range today. Man, it's really nice. I was amazed at how smooth it was.
I'm not typically a .45 guy, mostly 9's, and I was expecting a bit more of a sting with the compact stock.
Not so. It didn't jump much either, it was more of a straight back, more like my Sig's.
50 rnds and not a glitch. I'm a happy boy!

I really like my Ultra Raptor II....I agree that, for a 3" gun, it is extremely easy and pleasant to shoot....it's a keeper.....btw: it is also my EDC....

Did you put the magwell and arched housing on or did you buy it that way?

Congratulations SHOOT IT! They like to be shot.

I don't do the paper clip thing. I lay the slide with the underneath side facing me, and pinch the spring at the front and my thumbs at the back squeeze it and pull it out, reverse going back in.
Nice buy OP, my daily ccw is Kimber Ulrta Carry II with 230g HP
