Does anyone own a Solo or had some considerable range time behind one? I'm in the market for a CCW; right now I'm looking at the Kimber or maybe a Kahr & I'm trying 2 make an informed decision.

I have a Solo. I put 75 or so rounds through it. It is pretty accurate and I like the trigger. That being said, I had magazine problems. It will only work holding 5 rounds and I have had intermittent problems with it feeding when I jack the slide. I called Kimber and they sent me a new magazine, which I haven't tried yet. More to follow...

I just discovered that I cannot load a sixth round. Called Kimber, reached support, told my problem to "JAY", HE TOLD ME TO WRAP DUCT TAPE AROUND MY THUMB TO LOAD THE SIXTH ROUND. I'M NOT HAPPY AT ALL WITH THE NON-HELP. like the pistol, but their support suc––––-s! my first kimber will probably be my last.

Was hoping for a more positive report. I handled a solo at Cabelas & liked the way it felt especially when compared with some of the other guns I've been considering. I'm a bit limited on options. I prefer an IWB carry, any suggestions besides the Solo?

I work at a shooting range that has one for a rental. My guess is that it has well over 1000 rounds through it. It kicks like a mule, hung up a couple times in the first two mags, but other than that it has been trouble free. I really like it. I will probably own the first used one that comes in. Oh yeah, a chick was shooting it and holding it really high, the slide came forward and bit her hard. Actually stuck the gun to her hand for a minute or so.

The solo needs a bit of break in. Small gun, tight tolerances, critical spring strength, critical ammo strength. The KAHR pm9 was the same way.

The solo might just be superior to the pm9, if so I will swap my carry weapon. The solo is also a new design, and there
will probably be magazine issues as there has been with most 1st gen guns, in my experience.

I am sure that the gun will be a big seller, there is lots of interest around here.

Excelent guns, but do not carry it before you shoot between 350-500 rounds trough it - also test it with the ammo you intend to carry. Replace recoil spring every 800-1000 rounds.

I always break my guns in before carrying them. The firearm benefits from the use & I benefit from the practice. How many rounds have you put through a solo?

I have over 800 rounds through my Solo, had to send it back due to a couple of light strikes and finish wear on the inside of the frame. Kimber put a new mag catch and replaced the firing pin spring, that was at 500 rounds. I have had zero problems since then, but I only use 124 gr rounds.

It was ok, turn around was 4 weeks. Most of the wait was for the new improved mag catch to arrive.

First round of a fully loaded magazine needs to be loaded with the slide locked to the rear. You can then top off the mag and go. This is due to Kimber cramming a 9mm design into such a small package.

I've had no failures to feed or fire but I am currently sending mine back to Kimber. What's happening is the slide is failing to lock back. It is not about the slide catch spring not being properly engaged during reassembly but the fact that the mag tilts to the right and ends up along side the slide stop instead of the follower being beneath it. It happens when firing or when hand cycling the slide with an empty mag. If I take off the grips and push on the mag from right to left while inserting it with the muzzle pointed away from me and then rack the slide it catches, if I don't do this it ends up being like I described above. This is the first time I've ever had to send a firearm back to the manufacture so I hope Kimber's CS and turn around time is at least halfway decent.

Sorry, this is an old post. Where did you get this info? That means that the first spring is only good for 300-650 rounds? Who the hell came up with that brilliant idea?

I had never even heard of a Solo before today. I went in looking at a XDM Compact for the Mrs. (small lefty that needs a IWB gun). The sales guy said we should check out the Solo. It felt good and all. $640 out the door iseemed like a decent price. I came here to read reviews but think I'll pass (mag issues, harsh recoil, poor customer service....I mean duct tape!!!!, etc.)...

Given what I have read here and heard elsewhere, I believe I will pass on the Kimber Solo.

Bought mine off a member here a couple weeks ago and I now have put ~200 rounds through it without a single problem. Fit and finish is superb and the trigger is much nicer than the Kahr PM9 I was about to buy. Although not recommended, I've put a few magazines worth of WWB and some of my own 115gr. handloads through it and it feeds and fires perfectly. All in all I'm very happy with the Kimber Solo.

Nice SGM grips you got on there! I really think they improve the grip since I couldn't even feel the stock set. Glad to hear more positive Solo reports!

Here's mine
