I have a Kimber Pro CDP II, bought it lightly used 6 or 7 years ago. A couple months ago I noticed a small crack and bulge in the top of the main spring housing. I pushed down and it went flat and stayed that way. Last night I decided to remove the housing and inspect it. The only thing holding the housing together was the grip of the pistol. I realize that parts fail with use and over time. But I can not understand why this part is made of plastic on a gun that costs as much as the CPD does. Are all Kimber mainspring housings in the CDP line plastic or did I get a dud?
Kimber isn't the only one. My "enhanced" Colt Commander had a plastic mainspring housing.
My Colt XSE had one, it was one of the first things I replaced.

That reminds me, I bought one last year to change out the plastic one on my 1991 A1 Commander.
Thanks...

Just have to remember where I put it...

Yeah, some day I might change some of mine out, IF one ever fails.
There is "plastic" and then there is plastic. Just like steel, not all plastic is created equally.
mine shattered around the little retention pin. Now it has a Wilson Combat mainspring housing.
Dumped mine for a metal MSH. Happier now.
