While I don't have a P30 and my Hks are LEM. I will go on to say that I assume most people would carry safety off and hammer down. Unless you want to carry cocked and locked such as a 1911.

Can't imagine anyone wanting to carry hammer down and the safety on.

Hammer down on chambered round. Except for my HK45, I have all v3.

Yes, that DA pull seems heavy shooting at paper, but when training to draw and shoot, it becomes not even noticeable. It just becomes bang, bang, bang and you don't even think about the first shot being harder.

If I were to carry the 45 or a variant with the safety, I would just leave the safety off.
I only see the need for the safety on if you are carrying cocked and locked. But that's not necessary on a DA/SA action.
It makes complete sense on an SA only pistol like a 1911 though.

thanks for the replies.
I am looking to replace my current ccw (m&p 9c) this summer and am looking at a lot of options.
it looks like an hk45 or p30 will be in the holster eventually.
hammer down and safety off... guess i should have thought about that more, that is how i carry the m9 around on the farm.
thanks again

My daily carry is an HK .45 C V1 which I carry cocked and locked in a TT Gunleather Stronghold Phoenix IWB holster.

I was weaned on Colt 1911's in the early 1970's, so I'm quite comfortable toting this HK in condition one.

Here's a little anecdote regarding DA/SA:
I shot my first IPSC match this past weekend. I used my USP9SD. The rules required me to shoot double action for the first round. The first couple of times I had to shoot that first round in DA mode, I actually paused for a second because it felt so strange - I've only really ever shot my USP single action before. In contrast, I never even noticed taking the safety off when I drew my pistol because I did so every time I've shot with it at the range.

If you decide to do hammer down and off safe, just be sure to practice shooting that first round double action. While I know that competition isn't nearly as stressful as being in a real firefight, I do think it helped let me see how one could react in a stressful situation where you have to draw and fire. It made me hesitate a second because something felt "wrong".

My HK is da/sa without a safety. I have a decocker only model, so I carry hammer at half cock (decocked position). In drills and IDPA I dont notice the DA pull.

hammer down on a loaded chamber here too. No safety on mine. Just the decocker.

No problems
