HK45 purchase...edit...purchased
I've settled on my next purchase, a HK45. I've been researching for months now and ruled out;
FN45, wanted to like it for the capacity, but just didnt feel right in my hand, grip angle.
XDm 45, again wanted to like it, but didnt like the grip safety.
M&P 45, no reason, just wasnt wlld about it
1911, on the list, but in the future (probably a Ruger).
Glock, already have one
Sig P220, on the list, later .
Anyway, full circle to the HK45 V1. I'm happy with the price, $980. Hawaii has a crazy markup, other shops wanted $1200 ish. I always wanted an HK and the wife magically gave the greenlight for an early Xmas present.
The question for the HK guru's is, any batch serial numbers to be on the look out for and avoid. Any known defects, etc, to look for prior to the purchase?
Thanks for the assist and info.
I think I can safely say to hop over the the HK Pro forum for all things HK.
I've never seen anything about any bad lots. HK doesn't really have bad batches.
The only issue I've heard of on HK45's is that the O-ring will wear quickly and the lock up gets sloppy.
But it doesn't appear that everyone has this problem.
Good Luck!
Good buy on a great pistol. Congrats.
Nothing to look out for that I've heard or read of.

Never seen a problem with a HK45 outside of the uber rare part break which only proves that the universe is still working. Buy it and love it because it's practically unstoppable.

The HK45 should come with a small baggy with like 4 extra o-rings. I bought my HK45 about 3 years ago and am still on my first o-ring with no signs of cracking/wear. There are no bad lots to look out for. However, if you can land an earlier one that is made in Germany as compared to Made in USA, they are considered more desirable by some, and therefore have a possible higher resale value. Quaility will be the same, just some HK fanboys crave the German ones.

Bought my Tactical marked KK over a decade ago and is still on the first o-ring. No problems with my HK45 and HK45C. My US made HK45 has a better finish on the mag releases. Otherwise, quality is the same. As with accuracy.
Never heard of a bad batch. I Freaking love mine. I even have tiny hands and it fits me perfectly and has low recoil.
HK45 is an amazing pistol I have had mine for about 3 years now. You can't lose with that pistol at all, it or its little brother the HK45c. HK just got those pistols right.
As for the O-ring, I would have about 10 on hand, so you are covered for life, and your kids lives, and their kids lives. So long as you lightly oil the barrel like it is suggested in the manual then you will be fine. Also the way the Slide is designed on the HK45 it covers the ring up, making an amazing lock up. It will also make an Almost hermetically sealed environment, so if you have oil in there, you will be fine.
UNLESS.....you swim in the ocean daily, then use your HK45 to put out fires, make fruit smoothies, dig for buried treasure, and then don't clean it.
I pulled the proverbial trigger today and bought the HK45. The gun shop gave me a great deal at $979. If you ever find yourself in Oahu, Hawaii go to OGC Tactical, great guys.
Now I have to jump through the State of Hawaii hoops; notarized memo from my unit commander in lieu of the 6 hour safety course, medical waiver, mental health waiver, background check, fingerprints, application form, $19.25 exact change (WTF !) and a 2 week waiting period........DAMN!
All the BS is worth it though, the HK45 is a awesome weapon and thanks to all ensuring a solid purchase
