My P30L just showed up! Love it except for one thing...

The factory trigger!! I wont go so far to say it sucks, but my factory trigger on my HK45 is WORLD'S better. I have often read on here about people complaining about the factory trigger and looking for advice on who to sent it to fix it. This talk always confused me. Because the trigger on my HK45 that I've had for 2 years is the best trigger I have ever felt on any factory pistol. Its fairly light, its crisp, with minimal creep. I love it. My brand new P30L in 9mm is a different story. The trigger has literally twice as much takeup, twice the creep, and I would guess its a solid 1 to 2 pounds heavier. Holding both pistols in each hand with the hammers back, and slowing pulling back on the triggers simultaneously and dry firing them, the HK45's hammer always drops sooner, if i'm really slow its a good second sooner. And I even switched them up between hands, since I normally shoot with my right hand. HK45 always beats it. Same goes with 3 other people trying it.

Now, my HK45 does have about 700 rounds thru it, the P30 has only 80. So I dont know if it just needs a little "break in" and the trigger will smooth out. Or if its just stuck like this. Like I said, its not a bad trigger, and if I didnt have the HK45 I probably wouldn't have ever even thought about it, but shooting both side by side I cant help but notice how much better the .45 is. On a positive note, I love the smaller feel of the grip, I love how the slide release is longer, I can drop the slide with my hand in the full forward shooting position. And I love the "TRU DOT" sights it came with. HK truely makes some amazing pistols. Now I just need to decide what to do about this trigger...

And of course, pics for your viewing pleasure

I want to have sex with your guns. Would you be ok with that?

I have a P30 also and I agree that the trigger is a challenge. I'm planning on sending it to Gray Guns for a trigger job soon.

Gray Guns will fix ya right up but it won't be cheap. Shipping included you are looking at around $300 or so.

The trigger on my P30 L smoothed out and lightened up considerably after about 1,000 rds.

Yes, same for me. I think you just forget how they start out a little rough when comparing it to another pistol that is nicely broken in.

I've noticed that many new HK pistol owners have done some reading and jump to the conclusion that an LEM trigger or a trigger job is absolutely required for all HK handguns.

IMO, if they'd shoot their pistol and I mean put some serious rds. through it, they might reconsider having anything done to it at all.

The trigger on my HK 45 is it's worst feature by far.

After 550 rounds it still sucks.

This was my first HK, and probably my last. Honestly, well over $900 for a pistol and you get a trigger that would not pass QC at FN or CZ.

I don't understand this at all. The hype at HK is quality... quality... quality... And you get a second rate trigger that is easily bested by pistols costing near half as much.

Call me disappointed.

I'm with you. $850 for the worst trigger of any of my guns, bar none. I like the gun, so I'm looking for somebody to do the work on the trigger to at least make it bearable.

ETA) And the reset is retardedly long.

Especially for a pistol with a price tag that should make the need for trigger work irrelevant.

I don't mind paying for custom work, but cannot see that it should be needed on high end products like the HK.

By the way, the price is $325, and that does not include shipping, which for UPS next day air both ways will be considerable.

For that kind of money, plus the original cost of the HK45, I'd just get a Dan Wesson Valor and be happy.

I thought the Valor was nearly $2k? If you add $300 to the $850 I paid for the gun, I get $1,150. Still way under the Valor, I think. Not that the Valor isn't a great gun, but that's a large chunk of change extra.

Meh. The triggers on these guns aren't the best, that much is obvious. But they work. < The most important thing, by the way.

I don't buy the mentality of "this gun was expensive, so it should come with a Pez dispenser, voice activated GPS, and a spork". That would just make it more expensive. HK pistols are the cheapest guns that have the features I want. I guess I'm lucky.

+1

How reliable is the Valor? Right out of the box? How much break-in does it require? Will it devour every type of fmj and jhp ammo you put through it?

I'd much rather have an over-engineered German pistol that goes bang every single time I press the trigger. Even if that trigger leaves something to be desired.

Please buy the Dan Wesson, enjoy it and stop criticizing HK products in the HK forum.

There's a term for that...

This is what I think I am going to do. I can justify $300+ for a trigger job, especially for my uses. I am gonna just shoot the heck out of it and see how well I get used to the trigger, or if it starts to smooth out like my HK45. If not, a Bill Springfield trigger job might be in order.

The trigger is what has kept me from getting a P30. A shame, because it feels terrific in my hand. Just can't justify the cost of the trigger job. Years ago I sent a USP40 to Bruce Gray for trigger work. His work is superb for sure.

Don't let that stop you, seriously. The guns are worth the extra coin.

The DA trigger in my USP is a real challenge but I like the gun so much I'm going to shoot it until I break it in, or until it breaks me in.

I have now put about 300 rounds thru my P30, while it is still not like my HK45, is has noticably changed since I first got it and reported. It is already smoothing out, which is awesome.

I would actually say that the P30's trigger is the worst trigger I've ever felt. ...and I've owned Rugers, lol. I can deal with heavy that's not that big of a deal but the Reset is a half mile long, there no discernible "shelf" to stage the trigger and creep is terrible. All that said, it can be fixed by GGI or BillSpringfield. My gun leaves on the 16th to get an trigger job by Bill Springfield. All of that negative stuff said, I shoot the HK better than I do all f my other pistols. You buy a gun based on the negative things you can live with or change not how many bells and whistles it has.

Shit I love the trigger on my HK45,... It is perfect to me. My P30S showed me how sloppy I was with trigger control,. Something a lot of other pistols hide. But after about 200 rounds & and the involvement of a hammer me and my P30S have a understanding that works beautifully.

I am tempted to send them both to GGI,. But I don't think it's something I will "need". Instead I plan on spending the money on bullets, targets & gas to the range.

At least you're honest.

I miss my USPs. Is there a "best place" to buy one of these? Or maybe a place that gives .mil discount?
