 .40 recoil in a USP/C model?

For those of you that have a USP Compact in .40SW, how is the recoil? A lot of people complain that the .40SW recoil is "snappy", and to be honest I've noticed it myself when I shoot my G23, after I shoot a 9mm pistol or the family 1911 that we have. Now this doesn't really bother me per se as I feel I can handle it rather well, but I was wondering how the HK's handle the round?

It's my issue weapon, plus I have a personal one. I think it's probably the best defensive handgun/cartridge combination there is.

Recoil is very manageable in a pistol of that size. Don't be apprehensive about it.

I only notice it when I'm not focused on my target like I should be when I'm shooting.

Of course adding a TLR-1 does help some.

Ok thanks guys. One last question - The LEM version is the one without the safety/decocker, and has the 4.5lbs pull right? Or do I have to get a specific version of a LEM trigger?

"LEM" refers to a short reset mechanism of the trigger. And I think the pull is more than 4.5#.

As far as safety/decocker, I believe they come in different variants. Mine have no safety/decocker.

Yea I would be coming over from a Glock, which is why I was wondering about the no control lever. But I guess if I do that and a LEM trigger the weight goes up to like 7.5lbs to 8lbs, according to the links I noticed.

Don't suppose you could tell me what would be the comparable trigger variant style to a Glock weight? If it's even possible?

ETA - Or better yet, what style is the P2000? I noticed that didn't have any control levers on it, and I liked the trigger pull on that one. Is that a Variant 7 style trigger?

The STANDARD LEM is an 8 pound pull. The 4.5 pound pull is the LIGHT LEM and it is not a variant that is usually shipped. It is a simple change and only involves replacing two springs but if you order the USPC in V7 LEM it will come with the 8 pound pull. Then you either replace the springs yourself or have your smith do it, or send it to HK for conversion. Or you special order it with the light LEM and it can often take months to get your specially ordered pistol. IMO it is quicker and whole lot less aggravation to buy the standard LEM and then convert. It is only a 30 minute job to convert and if your have a smith that knows their way around a USP/C they can have it done in nothing flat.

I am not a fan of the .40 round what so ever, with that said the USPc chambered in .40 is one of the sweetest handguns I've ever owned/shot. Recoil is not bad at all, quick follow up shots, and accurate as you know what!!!

Ok so a quickish trip to my local fun shop revealed to me that I like the Variant 7 trigger style. So instead of going LEM - I'm just sticking with the Variant 7. The trigger reset "click" wasn't as pronounced as the Glock that I'm used to, but it was still there and I think with a little practice I will be doing just fine with it.

Now I just need to buy one and get used to that magazine release

You will wonder why other companies still use the side release, it is that much better

Is it possible to convert say a Variant 1 to a Variant 7?

Yes you can.

my first pistol was an HK USPC 40 LEM and it was amazing. I miss it very much. It carried well, it shot the 40 like it was a soft shooting 9mm, and it was accurate for its size. I am going to get another one.

If you like the LEM Top gun supply has a bunch they are trying to get rid of.

My USPc .40 is the smoothest, easiest shooting .40 that I have owned. It is very accurate and a pleasure to shoot, the recoil reduction system works extremely well. I have no problem trusting my life to either of my H&k's.

I too have an HK USPc 40SW. Its an easy shooting 40, reliable and accurate, but it is "snappier" compared to a 9mm
