I purchased a used Colt Huntsman serial number 189XXX-C . What series of Colt Huntsman is this? 2nd or 3rd?

All Huntsman are 3rd series regardless of serial #.

Uh, what happened to the first two series??? Or did they just start with the third?

Uh, what happened to the first two series??? Or did they just start with the third?
IIRC, the series applies to the Woodsman family, the Huntsman is on the later end of the line.

IIRC, the series applies to the Woodsman family, the Huntsman is on the later end of the line.

There are three series of Woodsman pistols, corresponding to three basic frame designs. First Series refers to all those built on the S frame as it existed prior to and during World War Two. Second Series includes all versions built on the second S frame design from late 1947 until mid 1955, and Third Series means the third S frame design as used from 1955 to the end of regular production in 1977.
Your Colt Woodsman could also be a:
-Match Target (1st, 2nd or 3rd)
-Sport (1st, 2nd or 3rd)
-Target (1st, 2nd or 3rd)
-Challenger (2nd series only)
-Targetsman (3rd series only)
-Huntsman (3rd series only)
BTW.....All Colt Woodsman .22 pistols are C&R regardless of their year of manufacture.

Woodsman, Huntsman and I believe the stainless Colt auto pistol all use the same magazine.

1st series Woodsman uses it's own mag
2nd series uses its own mag (only series with mag release on the side as opposed to butt)
3rd series can use a 2nd series mag (but not vice versa)
3rd series can easily be converted to allow use in a 2nd series.
The stainless Colt .22 uses a 3rd series mag.
