who is carrying a really old Colt as a daily CCW?
Most often think of older 1911's as collector guns that live in the safe. Anyone carry an oldy but goody as a carry Piece?
not really old, but I have been known to carry a '77 Combat Commander.
I carried a '03 pocket hammerless for a few months about 6-8 years ago. Nice little gun and I really wish they'd make them again.
I used to carry a '76 combat commander, but I got a new one in '07.
I carry this every once in a while, just for the hell of it. I usually carry a Glock 19 or Walther PPS but when I'm feeling dapper, have to go with a little more class and style:

A 1903 would be pretty classy, especially with some nice ivory grips!
I am qualified on my '76 Gov't Model. I carried it a couple times when working a plain clothes assignment.
After I got my S70 repro, the '76 went back in the safe.
Not carry guns but no safe queens and 56,92 and 108 should qualify as really old

my old man carries this:
I think its about 35 years old.
Springfield Armory has been around long enough, but FCS in 1975? Is that a SA/Colt Frankengun or a SA with aftermarket mods?

Aftermarket mods.
My Grandfather's brother was a pistolsmith.
Shit this is a colt thread. Sorry guys. I'm a tard.
My buddy carries his '47 Colt occasionally but I dont have any pix of it

, He's got it worked over with a ton of Ed Brown parts.
I used to carry my USGI Remington-Rand M1911A1 WAY back in the day when it was the only handgun I owned. At the same time, a buddy of mine carried his Colt M1911 for the same reason.
I'm an "oldy but goody" that carries a Colt 1911 as a CCW.

Previously mentioned '47. Carries great, shoots greater. Previous owner did all the working over with the Ed Brown parts, I got the gun as is. I personally would have left it the way it was, but I'm not complaining. She's more accurate than I'll ever be.

Sometimes I carry the 1969 Lightweight Commander in 9mm, the 1951 stays in the safe
There is a guy locally who has a 1954 Cobra for sale, first issue with the full size frame. There is holster wear on the aluminum frame and slightly on the muzzle but there's no turn line on the cylinder and it locks up tight as can be. He's asking $450 ... I want it sooooo badly.
I carried a 1911a1 for years before I bumped up to a MK 4 series 80 when I was 22
1955 Colt Detective Special. (really old to me)
and abused
but she locks up tight.
I CCW my 1969 2.5" Python on a daily basis. I am about to pick up a 2" Colt Lawman in .357 mag and I will carry both "New York Reload" style.
MadDog

My Sunday carry is my great grandma's vest pocket in .25 ACP. I dubbed it my "Church Mouse". When she was alive she'd always carry it in her purse.
My CCW, made in the mid '70's. I did look up the date one time, but I have forgotten the exact year. I also have an 1860 Colts revolver, but I obviously don't carry it.

My carry gun is a '75 Detective Special. I love bringing her out when a Smith fan starts bashing Colts.
1908 Pocket Pistol in .380
I have been carrying this regularly but I feel guilty doing so. :D I should get a real beater.
I carried this 1911 for 6 months in Iraq in 08' Frame is a Colt 1916 dated and wears a Ithaca slide.
CD
I carry a mid 60's Detective Special nearly every day.
predator- that 1908 is stunning! I'd retire that gun to safe queen occaisional range use definitely not carry- need to get a spare beater like you said

I am thinking about getting one of those colt pocket mustangs. So yeah I really should or find a refinished one of these but they go for like 600 bucks or more. I wish Colt would make these again I'd love to have one in stainless! My pistol was made in 1921 and is a type 3.

Yes sir I do plan on picking one of those up for sure! I knew about them being remade but just have to wait till they hit stores.
When I want to go "old school" I go with my 1971 2.5" Python and 1976 2" Lawman MK III.....................................together....................................at the same time.
ETA: I am a lefty and wear this rig on my strong side, therefore, the Python is a strong-hand draw and the Lawman is a weak-hand cross draw. "FILL YOUR HANDS..........YOU SON OF A BITCH". A little John Wayne humor there
MadDog

I have and carried a nice blue steel Colt C series Government Model .45 for six years or so. Made in 1969. I'll get pictures posted.
Steve88GT
I carried a Steve Bailey built 68 commercial model for a long time.
I carried a 1903 for a summer or two during the really hot months. Mine was a .380 made sometime in the early 20's. IIRC. Type III I think w/o barrel bushing.
The thing concealed like a champ. Very quick to draw and point. Someone needs to start making them again. Better ccw than an LCP/P3AT in my opinion.
I sold mine. I lost a lot of weight, and could get away with concealing a bulkier gun (Hk P7, now a G19) on my waistline under business attire.
from time to time i'll carry my 1917 colt .25 caliber...
