Colt O1980XSE?
I've narrowed down my search for a new, full size 1911 to a Colt XSE Government.
None of my local gunshops carry any of the XSE models, but are more than happy to order one with 50% down.
Two questions...
1. Do the XSE's come with a standard GI length guide rod, or is it the FLGR?
2. Are the XSE Colt's a good, solid gun?
XSE Rail Gun has the std Gi length guide. I'd assume they all might be in that series.
Colt is pretty good these days. The XSE Rail Gun I just bought seems to be a fine specimen.
I would be hard-pressed to find a reason not to seriously consider one, were it not for the S80 system and FCS. Oh yeah, that would be a Wiley Clapp! Actually, if the the WC was a little less flashy like the XSE (or the XSE had those WC features, it would be on my short list. the XSE is a solid CCW. a few changes and it would be an amazing ccw.
Good info guys! I have another month or two of saving $$$ before I can buy one. I checked with a buddy who owns a Colt XSE Lightweight Commander, and his pistol came with the FLGR. Guess I'll find out when the gun arrives.
XSE has the FLG rod
the XSE is the best for the money pistol they make now for CCWD in my opinion
I have an XSE Combat Elite and XSE Rail Gun. Both excellent pistols. A $5 plate from Brownells will eliminate an 80 series system.
I've had an XSE for a couple of years now and have been very happy with it. I only have about 500rds through it so far and had only one problem...a FTF on the very first round, and no problems since. I know 500rds isn't much, but my gunsmith said if I haven't had a problem by now, it probably won't have any. It's eaten every hollow point I tried in it.
I have recently purchased a blue XSE and it has been great; it is the best 1K I've spent in a long time.
This new Colt is accurate, reliable (250 rounds no issues) and it is a thing of beauty.
If they are all like this one...buy with confidence.
I just ordered one through my local FFL dealer. Should be $925 out the door. I've noticed some of the guns are shipped with the old blade style rear sight while others have a wedge style rear sight.
The 01980XSE that I bought (used from orig. owner) said it came with FLGR. I can't add anything more as I have not shot it yet.
Just picked up my new one today, I like the new roll mark,..
Nice gun!
Are all the Colt XSE guns coming with an upswept beavertail now? Glad to finally see that because that was one of the reasons that I hadn't picked one up yet. Will definitely be looking into one of those again.
Also wish that Colt would checker the front strap.
Anybody get their hands on one of the XSE guns in black/blued finish?

Now that is one kick ass weapon! Well done.
Did it come with the upswept beavertail?
I just picked up a LW XSE last week. It came with the upswept beavertail. My first new Colt, LOVE IT!
It also came with the FLGR.

At the time I bought mine (like 3 years ago) they did not, I've changed a lot of parts on mine.
Just picked up a 01880XSE today. Definitely has flgr. It has the blued slide and parkerized (I think) frame. Also has "100 years of service" engraved on the right side. Nice gun. paid $899

The 1880 has an anodized aluminum frame.
Sweet.
I recently bought a XSE Commander. Wish I could have found a Lightweight.
a-bare

Thanks a-bare,
I wasn't originally looking for the lightweight but the LGS had both and the more I handled it the more I liked it

But is not legal for IDPA or USPSA 1911 specific competition then. </full disclosure>
