I need a beat to hell 1911
Preferrably an old A1..I need one for my office desk, I have a beat to hell USP .45 that I am giving my brother for his boat. Long story.
But for office defense, I'd like to have cheap, old 1911 just in case there is riff raff going and I have to defend the office.
I almost bought an Old Colt at a pawn shop last summer for $400..this thing was rough but I now regret not getting it. Is there anywhere else to find Colt beater or variants on the net?
you could buy a used springer gi and throw it down the driveway. that would keep ou in the $400 dollar range.

Sounds like you want a hi point.
Cheap and works.
Hard to find that in a 1911.

You know what I mean smarty pants.
It's gonna stay in my desk drawer for 11 months and 2 weeks out of the year...a 1911 would bring the comfort factor up a notch. I will find one..I might even get an old Springfield if I can't get the Colt.

Why not get a 1911 clone ?
Centerfiresystems has the Rock Island Armory tactical for $420.00
Hard to find a Colt for that price that's not an ORM 1991. my suggestion would be a sistema or a norinco.
Bought my NIB RIA about a year ago for $385 plus tax. Nothing that has Colt stamped on the slide will go that cheap in today's market. And really, why do you want a beat up old gun that may or may not work defending your office and/or life?
keep a close eye on gunbroker and auction arms. I have bought a number of Colts of these sites in the last several years for under 600 bucks. It will be real hard to find a Colt in any sort of functional condition for 400 bucks. In that price range I would say a police trade in glock would be a better choice.
I got my Series 80 for 299 bucks. In great condition. I'm fairly sure the shop had it mis-marked, but that's what they sold it to me for a few years back.
I have a local dealer here that has some RIA's for like $395 obviously without shipping and transfer to you but an option
I would tell you to get a Colt Sistema M1927 (Argentine made 1911A1s done with Colt tooling), but even those have gone up in price in the last few. I picked up one for $250 years ago and it was a very decent shooter; reparked and refitted with original Colt parts and it did double duty as my reenactment gun until i sold it to financer my Kimber Warrior.
I would regret selling it, but now, I have two ponies along with my Kimber, so i guess i did okay.
