I just bought my wife a P99C in 9mm as a surprise for her birthday in October. It's a very nice gun, but the slide release is very tight. Will this loosen up over time, or stay tight? Is there anything i can do to loosen it up. I'm positive my wife will not be able to release the slide as it is.
It should loosen up with wear. If you want, you can polish the contact surfaces.
for women especially your better to teach her "rack to release" the main reason is its an easier and faster under stress then using the slide release....now on this subject you will find many who disagree, but Israel trains this way only for all their military (one other reason is their law requires pistols to be carried with out a round in the chamber for civi's)..but i also teach this way after i was shown what exertion dos to finite muscle manipulation...its far easier to catch a slide anywhere on the top and rack then to manipulate a 8mm by 3mm tab under pressure.
O...and another benifit to teach this way it helps train for rack and clear drills.
remember to teach her to rack with thumb towards her...domanent elbow perched against her side ...rack back..push foward to target..this way she is back on target quick
Not that it's a bad idea, but the reason the Izzy's teach it is because they used to have a serious problem with lack of standardization of side arms. The slide rack works on every gun.
