Ordering a PK380 this week. Yay, me!

I have researched and thought about it for awhile, and have decided to go ahead and order a PK380. Should have it by the end of the week. I am excited, as I haven't owned anything small enough to carry for over a year. It will be my CCW piece for now. Eventually I plan to have a full sized major caliber pistol as well (i.e P99, Glock, or USP), but I think this will be a great thing to have around, and the price is just right. It should be easy for my son and my wife to practice with, as the recoil and the slide spring are noted as being very light. The plan is to add accessories as time goes by. Woo-hoo!

Even better, the dealer had one in stock with the laser installed! I had not planned on buying them together, but it was hard to refuse because it was a reasonable deal (I think)...$400 out the door.

Tried it out yesterday. Wish I had more ammo (only could find 50 rds. at Wally World on a Sunday...my usual sources were closed)! It was great , and I am going back tomorrow to shoot about 200 more rounds through it. I even tried the laser at about 7y for two mags and it worked like a charm (I thought of it as more a toy than a useful item, but it impressed me by staying zero'ed and grouping very tightly at that distance). I must admit I was skeptical up until the moment of truth about this pistol after reading so much about them for the last year or so. I still think it is an oddity among .380s because of its size, but I can't find anything to complain about. Now to save up for the P99AS!

ETA: The recoil is very light, but reports of it being .22-like are exaggerated.

ETA 2: 200 rounds more and not a single hiccup. Very accurate as well.

My "home" gun shop has 'em without laser for $279.00 (just got the flier today). Might just have to drive over tomorrow and pick one up, after I do a little research.

That is a great price. Mine was going to be $330 without the laser, and I thought it was a fair enough price. Definitely get one, just for the fun factor if nothing else!

i have one and love it. better yet, the wife now shoots,,,,,the 14# only slide rake is awesome and the wife can rake it with no problem. it is also extremely accurate. nice sights(metal not plastic and adjustable). i would highly recommend this to the women out there that are scared-off by recoil...........this gun is the ticket.

I just got home from shooting it today, and noticed a recurring problem this time. Seems like I heard about somebody else with the same malfunction: occasionally the safety lever drops down out of the fire position while the slide is cycling. Anybody had this problem on a PK380 or a P22? If so, what was the solution? I guess it is going to have to go in for warranty, because I took out the screws holding the levers on and examined the mechanism; it appears there is not enough tension on the little detent balls that hold the levers in place against the slide (where the dimples are for "F" and "S" positions). Grr.

This can occur on p22s. The solution for the tinkerer is to deepen the detent holes slightly with a drill bit. I don't know if the same fix is applicable to the 380, but it's probable.

Thanks, I will probably just send it in for warranty repairs, since it is new. Plus, I wouldn't want to void the warranty by working on it myself. It just annoys me to have to do so.

ETA: Thanks, Local. Actually I didn't try the drilling of the holes, but I researched awhile and tried something else (thanks to ARFCOM for having so much info available). On one of the P22 threads, I came across a link to a "P22 Bible" and found the same symptom along with a fix. I removed the safety levers and lightly filed the "shoulders" to get a tighter fit for the ball against the slide detent. Now it snaps from safe to fire with authority, and you can really feel it "click" when it engages the recess. I have to test it this weekend at the range to confirm results, but I think it is GTG. Will report after testing!

Interesting experience yesterday. The Remington ball ammo I tried duplicated the problem with the safety lever twice in a box of 50, and I could definitely feel something going on as the slide cycled (like the round hitting/slowing down/hesitating on the feed ramp). I then went through 150 rounds of Winchester FMJ and 50 rounds of CCI Blazer FMJ without a hiccup, and without the aforementioned sensation that occurred with the Remingtons. The safety didn't walk even once. Weird.

I reserve judgement on the reliability of this fix (and the weapon in general) until I run at least 500-1000 more rounds through it without a failure. And it was Remington FMJ that I was using when the failures occurred to begin with, although it was much more pronounced (every 4 or so rounds) before I filed on the safety lever shoulders.

P.S. I do love the way it shoots!
