Every once in a while if I place the hammer at half cock it gets stuck in that position, won't fully cock or release. I hit it on the side several times and bang it around and then it will finally release. Any possible reasons it would do this? or how to fix the problem?
Send it back to Taurus...lifetime warranty.
My first check would be to look at the "lock" on the mainspring. If you aren't sure what that is, look at the backstrap and you'll see a small circle with two tiny dots inside it. That is the lock that the key fits into. Maybe the lock isn't into the fully locked or unlocked position.

I would agree that the first thing to check would be the hammer 'security lock'. But two tiny dots, backstrap?
ezlife45 may be working from memory having Taurus mixed up with Springfield. S/A uses the 2 Dot on the backstrap/mainspring housing security lock arrangement.
The OP may want to check directly atop the hammer for the security lock. Taurus supplies keys for this lock that looks like an alan & post.
The security lock on my PT1911 can be difficult to Unlock. I don't use it anyway.
If the OP cannot get the hammer to function properly he could send it back to Taurus who will/may fix it in a timly manner or not in a timely manner or he could use this opportiunity to disassemble/assemble his 1911 and learn something.
They aren't all that complicated and there are countless online tutorials many of them very good.

I took the pistol completely apart recently and nothing seemed to be wrong with it and when i put it back together... no problems. I dont know if a something was getting caught in the mechanism and i let it loose or something. thanks
