I have been thinking about getting a pt-1911 stainless pistol in 38 super for awhile now, and was curious if any of you boys and girls own one. What are your experiences with it? I have a blued .45 acp version that I have been satisfied with so far. The only things I have done to it is replace the grips and hammer. Thanks for any replies.

I'd be anxious to hear from current owners also. I think I'd prefer .38 super, for it's "coolness" factor, but a 9mm for it's economical ammo. I already have a .45 in Taurus and like it quite well. Just want another.

I am not too sold on 9mm because I already have a Hi-power.

I bought a blued 38 super about 6 months ago. The gun has run like a sewing machine. Since this buy on a whim I have went fully into 38 super. I added a magwell and wilson grips and extended mag release. I have shot the gun in 3 or 4 USPSA matches and had NO failures or problems. The 38 super cartridge loaded correctly really knocks the steel plates down. Recoil is a little more than the 9mm with my loads. I recommend this gun to anyone is looking at one. Here is a pic of mine right before last match.

Did you have to do any fitting on the mag well and mag release? I put a Wilson Combat hammer on mine that dropped in but the sear needed fitting.

The magwell is a cheap type that I had never had before. I picked it up for almost nothing from a friend. It just fits on the pin that holds in the mainspring. I had to do a little fitting for it to fit the way I like. I had to do more work on the grips than themagwell. Just about 10 minutes with a fine file. The Wilson mag release took a little longer but it fit very well. I found both of them helped with the last match. One the magwell if I had to do it again I would buy a quality piece. I am going to replace the hammer in the future also to get rid of the "safety lock".

CDNN has them for 399.99...for that price I'm tempted to pick one up. I'm assuming they're new in box.

Too bad I am not a dealer. I would love to pick up one of these for $399.

Cdnn's prices are only for dealers? A regular person couldn't buy one for the price they advertise?

I have bought a few guns from them and had them shipped to a buddy's ffl. As long as they have the FFL on file it's a done deal. Of course you will need to pay your FFL their fee for transfer and such. I bought mine for $369 from a different company and paid the $25 fee to the shop. The price of $399 is a good price.
