So I ordered an Ares Ranger belt because I wanted a stiff belt of OWB carry, and because LaRue had them in stock and I needed to re-up on Dillo Dust. What better reason do I need?
Anyway, reviews for this belt are good obviously, but I read and saw on youtube more than once that there were two issues people had with the belt.
1. It is difficult and time consuming, compared to a regular belt, to thread the Ares belt and the 1" webbing through the belt loops on one's pants.
2. Once the belt is on, there is no way to secure the loose webbing, unless you tuck it into a belt loop on your pants or something. People don't like just having it hang off the belt.
I headed to Walmart and picked up some 1" elastic for $1.44. I got a utility knife blade hot and cut roughly 3 1/4" piece, sewed the ends and then turned it inside out.
Slid just over the end of the 1 1/2' webbing and the 1" webbing, it holds it in place well enough to thread it through the belt loops.
When the webbing is threaded through the buckle, the elastic holds the loose webbing secure.
You can probably find a better selection of colors and materials at a fabric store or online, if you're looking for colors close to OD green or coyote tan etc.
I'm sure this isn't an original idea, somebody somewhere has probably already tried this. Just thought I'd share.
