Raven Concealment Vanguard 2
Is anyone else here excited about this new product?
I can't seem to find a release date though.
I am.
I posted the following about it in the general handgun discussion. Just my thoughts on it without having tried one personally.
I've got a Vanguard 1 that I use to secure a loaded weapon that I've unholstered without having to unload the gun before reholstering it or putting it in another holster. It's good for when I'm jockeying around a lot of different gear in the trunk. I have never carried with the Vanguard 1 on my person.
The Vanguard 2 takes another step in the direction of carry on-person with it. I like that it has a belt loop and it appears tuckable. Here's the problem that I see with it. Once these are out people are going to start carrying with them. With the old Vanguard 1, if you drew the weapon, the trigger-protector would come out of your pants as well and be retained by the cordage. So reholstering would just require putting the trigger-protector back on the trigger guard and then sticking it back in your pants. With the Vanguard 2, drawing the weapon will leave the trigger-protector in your pants and still attached to the belt by the belt loop. But it's not a traditional holster with a wide open mouth for reholstering, so I see the possibility of someone (perhaps careless, perhaps a lapse of judgment, perhaps under the stress of just shooting someone in self defense) trying to reholster the weapon back into the trigger guard that is all the way in their pants, and possibly blowing off a nut or half of their ass.
The ability to quickly and safely reholster is very important to me, and I don't see the Vanguard 2 as having that. Innovative product, though.

The vanguard is a compromise product, not a traditional holster replacement. Those who buy them should realize that the product fills a certain role, not every role. Reholstering the Vanguard 1 is ugly at best, this one really won't be much different.
What I like about this version is that it will break free from the pistol immediately instead of some point after clearing your belt line. Think how this would be better inside a vehicle or at contact distance. The last thing I want to happen is to draw a gun and still have the trigger guard obstructed.

Good points. The "2" is an improvement over the "1" for presentation from concealment, I absolutely agree. My only concern was with reholstering, but as you said, it is a compromise product. My intent was not to bash the "2", only to give my observations based on how I'd see myself using it and the issues that may arise for me.

I think your observation is valid. For anyone who is planning on using this in the same manner as a traditional holster, they may want to rethink it. I picked up the original version to fit a very specific role. The new version will fill that roll even better for me. But I only use the product when the use of a "real" holster is not an option.
Interesting!
I have the equivalent product from Suarez. It does the job.
Need to figure out if I can tuck a shirt in over it though.

See, now look, you've got me curious about them now. Wonder what Raven will sell them for...
I think they said:
$20 for the new injection-molded VanGuard
$20 for the Strut/Loop assembly that makes it a VanGuard2
It's a cool product with a narrow but important application. Of course it's nice to have to toss on to guns you're carrying in a bag, etc. to protect the trigger, etc.
Paul Gomez does a good break-down of the VanGuard here

Thanks!
It's a Dale Fricke Zach.
Not even close.

looks like price is actually going to be: $34.99 per Tom of Raven's post here:
Gearscout
they started taking pre orders today through a link on their facebook page mine is already ordered

I totally pre-ordered one, myself. I recently lost a TON of weight, (About 120 pounds, down to 200). I'm extremely anxious to try this holster.
Despite my earlier skepticism, I've ordered one as well. It is a compromise method of carry, and I just might find occasion to use it.

If these were readily available, seems like it would be a good option for an internim holster, for those waiting on holsters with long wait times.
I got my shipping notice today! :-D Once this arrives, I'll be ordering a sole OWB w/ pancake wings from RCS. Gonna be awesome!
Got my shipping notice yesterday, as well.
Mine shipped today, too. Can't wait to try it out. Hopefully I'll have my G26 back by the time it gets here. I left a friend who is thinking of buying a 26 borrow mine for a little while, and I think he's grown rather fond of it.
