AmI using the 6280 wrong?
I cannot seem to get my m&p9+tlr out clean, it ALWAYS snags......
am i the only one?
Draw stroke must be straight up and out. Once the gun/flashlight clears the holster, then you can rotate the gun towards the target.
If you start to rotate before clearing the holster, the tip of your gun/flashlight will snag.
Practice, practice, practice.

I figured practice would make it routine. Wore it all day today and kept at it. Seems like a weird motion to Come straight up... I can't believe how popular these are on the belt? Had the thigh one and had no issues and now I see why....
Never could get them to get out clean without the bottom of the holster pulling away from my leg.
Those things need a strap.
Yep.
I have been wearing a 6280 on a duty belt for about eight years now, carrying a 1911, Sig 220, Glock, and a couple of different M&Ps, all with and without lights. They do not need a leg strap, they are very easy to use. As the hand goes down to obtain the firing grip, the thumb activates the hood. After the grip is obtained, pull the gun straight up toward your armpit. I have never had an issue with the holster moving, or the gun sticking, once I got the hang of it.

I could do it if I was standing still, but found it tough to get a clean presentation while on the move. I don't have any other holsters nor have I used any other holsters where a perfectly straight draw was require to avoid them sticking. One could call it a training issue, but we all know what happens when you start moving....as most people do when they get shot at and have to draw a firearm. Not very likely that you're going to get a perfectly straight draw when you're hauling ass to get behind cover.
Then again, if it works for you thats great! I just decided that there were better options for me than the 6280.
Moving while drawing does not affect whether or not you get a straight draw of not. I have drawn and reholstered in foot pursuits, while rolling around on the ground, in and out of cars, seated, standing, prone..etc...
If it doesnt work for you, no big deal, but it is absolutely a training issue, and a very minor one at that. oi would venture to say that over half of all the duty holsters found in the US are of the SLS variety. If they didnt work, they would not be as prevalent as they are. If you do decide that you dont want to learn to deal with it, try the Safariland ALS. Whatever you do, keep with Safariland, nothing else out there comes even close in terms of quality and ruggedness.
howdoes the als differ from the sls?
I'm looking for a non-serpa retention option....
very happy with ravens, but need some retention for the OWB belt....

I think we may be talking about two different things now. I love the SLS system, thats not my problem. The problem is that if I tighten the screws so that there is any tension on the firearm, the lower part of the holster pulls away from my body making the gun "catch" just a bit during my draw. If I use a 6004 high rider with the single leg strap, the handgun comes out faster and smoother than a booger.
And I use the same holster, and have for years. The tension screw does not need to be very tight, its not meant for any amount of real retention. Another issue you are most likely having is that the holster is new, and the suede liner is still rough. A lot of repetitions on the the draw will smooth it out. If you don't want to wait, a little bit of PAM cooking spray will slick it up some until the suede liner is worn smooth.
As for the ALS, it uses a thumb activated ejection port retention system. It is automatically activated upon reholstering. Very slick setup..I will convert one of these days, but I have been carrying the SLS so long, its hard to change.
