I decided to try my hand at working leather and making a few holsters from scratch for my guns. So last friday I went down to the local Tandy Leather and purchased a Double Shoulder hide and a couple beginners leather kits. Then came home and cut out some leather and double stitched me up a holster for my 1911. What do you think? Not too bad for my first try. Sorry I didn't take more pics. I got so involved that I forgot to take more.
I made a Threepersons style holster for a couple single actions. One has the scallop stamp border the other barbed wire. Tandy also has a antique finish stain that looks good on a rough looking holster with western motiff border stamps. You may want to get a bottle of polymer style liquid. Satin Sheen or Saddle Sheen is the name of the product. Paint it on and it makes the holster stiffer and prevents the nappy side of the holster from wearing from gun going in and out. It also keeps the gun safer from the leather and the leather safer from body oils.
Nice job.
Looks good.....both of them.
WOW, both look fantastic. How did you get the leather to form to the contours of the gun?

Thanks! I take the raw leather and soak it in hot water. Then I stick the gun in it and form the wet leather around the gun and let it dry a little before removing the gun. Next I let the holster sit over by my wood stove and thoroughly dry before dyeing or sealing the leather.
