Hello, I just received my first hand gun and am new to holster hunting. I am wondering what M&P users are wearing and based on that , need recomendations for a range holster and an IWB varient.

Thanks in advance.

Hard to find a decent holster for under $60.

Secret City Weaponeers is my first choice

Crossbreed holsters is a fantastic choice as well

Spend a few more bucks and get a CTAC.

This is your first handgun, buy the good stuff the first time.

Spend $90 on an MTAC and be done with it. I know that's not the answer you're looking for but most of us have buckets full of cheap holsters. Learn from our mistakes.

If you are really intending to carry that large frame pistol regularly you need a quality holster and belt.

Save up if you have to; but don't buy crap and expect it to work.

My choice is a horsehide Crossbreed Super Tuck on a 1 1/2" Comp-tac kydex reinforced contour belt and it works extremely well for me.

ETA: IMO, cheap, ill fitting, and soft, holsters present safety issues as well.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. Looks like i will wait until I have the money to make a purchase of a higher quality holster.

Old Faithful Holsters

These are $45 already made, or $25 for a kit that includes everything you need to make your own. I made mine almost a year ago and it's been nothing short of perfect.

I got a horsehide Super Tuck for $40 shipped for my M&P 9c. I love it. It really do forget that I have it on. Make sure to get a good gun belt. It will make a huge difference in comfort and stability.

The cross breeds look great and the consensus across the net is they are tough to beat in horse hide in the comfort category. The MAtac looks like a great choice with interchangeable spares for different guns. I really like that. Well I will have plenty of time to this.k about it.

Go with either a crossbreed second or a kholster.

As far as a range holster, I'm guessing OWB.... I like the Fobus roto. I'ts pretty nice but my next one will be a blackhawk with the quick detach.

QFT.

I have a drawer full of holsters. Bianchi, Fobus, Blackhawk, Don Hume, you name it.

I received my first MTAC last week and was blown away by the overall quality and design of the holster, as well as its comfort. I was so impressed, I promptly ordered one for my Sig P239 along with the Minataur IWB magazine carrier. I will probably order their kydex reinforced belt as well.

Save up, sell a kidney, etc. Buy this holster and be done with it.

I use a FIST #1 to carry an M&P40c: http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/holster/Default.htm

I prefer leather and a steel clip.

Personally, and I did a lot of research, I'd never go with anything but a Secret City Weaponeers holster, order a set of IWB loops, and you can wear it IWB/OWB, I hate, hate, hate, my Crossbreed Super Tuck. Funny how they suggest you "wear it in" for a couple weeks, and only give you 2 weeks to try it B4 you can send it back, silly me.

AND, Do not make the mistake of buying or just using your regular store bought gun belt. Buy a STIFF belt, I've tried them all and Ares Gear Ranger is head and shoulders above all the rest. Of course your going to blow your budget and more on that belt, but trust me it's worth it. Blows away my Wilderness CSM insert, makes it look like a wet noodle.

Seriously, look around check things out.

I just recently picked up a Galco Kingtuk for $64 with tax. Its the first holster of this type that ive used and I love it. I wish I would have been using holsters of this type sooner. Its alot like a Crossbreed I guess, but it was in my local shop when I went to get a IWB for my 1911 so I figured Id try it out. Like I said its awesome, very secure, holds gun close, kydex is a little tight when you first get it but it seems to have loosened to be just the right fit now.

Its just another option, I personally love it, not sure how many others have them but Id recommend it for sure.

Theis holsters.

$55 shipped for cowhide. Made in the USA(very well too btw). And just as good as any 'brand name' hybrid IWB holster out there.

I'm pretty sure he makes them for that gun.

I have a Desaints intruder its a good holster, not the quality of a Crossbreed but it works fine. I carry my Glock 17 rtf2 in it all day and its not uncomfortable. But I have worn the Intruder for about a year and I am going to upgrade to a Crossbreed.

The bottom line is you can come here for recommendations but nothing is 100%. You are going to have to buy multiple holsters most likely to find the one that works the best for you. If you buy one and like it and works for you keep it, unless you find something else. Take form advice with a grain of salt.

Oh and get a quality stiff belt. I am cheap. I use an American Eagle belt that I bought almost 6-7 years ago. Its quite flimsily. My main piece of advice is to get a good stiff belt that is designed for carry.

good luck!

This. I have used several of his holsters. They are every bit as good as a Crossbreed. I don't buy them because they are cheaper. I buy them because they are a good product, he is a great guy, and I have one on my doorstep in a week.

I ended up going with a N82tactical. I am glad i did and yet wish i did not for this weapon.

I will definately go the N8 route for my next pistol which will be a sub compact 9mm ala LC9 or Khar CW9 and its very comfortable but I realize now that my M&P 40 is winter carry only do to its size and as such would prefer the type of holsters you guys have been recomending. Again , not a question of the quality. The N82 tactical is an excellent well made and very comfortable holster.

thanks again gentlemen.

You will go through many, many holsters finding what works for you. This is just a step in the process of you building up a respectable holster box!

I used to wonder why people had so many pistols and holsters. Sheesh this is worse than black rifle disease.
