I bought a couple of 50 round boxes of Federal .40 cal 180gr HST at a gun show in Jackson. These are in plain white boxes of 50 rnds per box. It says xm40hc.
lot number is 50p596t020. my question is on the bottom of the boxes there is is sticker that says pressure range issues. WTF does that mean? Are these safe to feed my M&P"S?I was thinking 19.99 a box of 50 was kinda cheap, but that sticker has me worried.

am I going die?????

They are fine to shoot as practice ammo, but they aren't duty rated. These are factory seconds that weren't worthy of duty rounds. So, if they are not good enough to police to use, I wouldn't trust my life to them. However, they are good enough to get a little trigger time with them, then get some factory HST in the Federal Law Enforcement Tactical 50 round boxes and use those for carry.

It's my understanding that although that may be true for the ammo the OP purchased, not all XM40 HC is, and that the ammunition sold by SG Ammo is from a government agency over run with absolutely no defect.

I have shot over 1000 rounds of it through my M&P .40 without a single failure, it's extremely accurate and slightly hotter that the P40HST1 sold in the LEO boxes at a much higher price.

And every single round of its has been 100% pristine and neither the individual boxes nor the cardboard cases are marked with any stickers or wording to the effect that the ammo is factory seconds or sub standard in any way.

The main difference is that the XM40HC doesn't have nickeled cases.

I have a shitload of both P40HST1 and XM40HC and I wouldn't hesitate to trust my life to either; in fact, I prefer the XM40HC, it's slightly hotter.

I would appreciate a link to a reputable source that substantiates the assertion that all Federal 180 grain XM40HC represents sub standard ammunition.

According to SG Ammo, it is not seconds and I consider them to be a reliable, truthful vendor.

Frankly; I would never shoot any ammo that was marked with a sticker indicating pressure issues.....even for practice.

Here is what Federal has to say regarding XM40HC.

As usual, America First is correct on this post. I get all my .40cal carry ammo from SG Ammo and absolutely all of its XM40HC. It's accurate, reliable, and the same damned ammo Federal sells in the pretty boxes with the only exception being the cases are brass instead of nickel plated. Oh, and the XM40HC is less than half the price of the HST boxed ammo. That is the only difference I've noticed. I carry it everyday and will continue to do so.

I sell Federal LE ammo. The ammo that the OP purchased is not the same as S&G is selling right now. The only reason I have chosen not to sell the XM ammo is I do not want the confusion.Since it is contract over runs and contract rejections(not factory rejects like OP ammo) the specs could change from batch to batch(made for different customers to different specs) vs the OP round to round. I will stick with the consistency of the regular Federal Tactical version.

The XM is plentiful today but will dry up. If you like the ammo you should stock up before it is gone.

Finally shot some out of my M&P compact. Shoots great! Shot way better than the Gold Dots.
Went ahead and ordered 5 more box's from sg. Great ammo.
