Did "Chinese Ammo" Do This To a 629?

This is a fowarded e-mail I just received is it legit?
"A guy came into the police department the other day to ask a favor. He had a S&W 629 (.44 Mag) that he wanted to dispose of after a mishap at the range. He said there was a loud bang when he tested his new ammo (Chinese made), and the gun smacked him in the forehead, leaving a nice gash. When the tweety birds cleared from around his head, the pictures show what he saw.

Bet he never uses Chinese made ammo again!
Looks like when the round in the chamber went off, It also set off at least two other rounds in adjacent cylinders. I would have hated to been the one that pulled the trigger on that one!

Unfortuanatly the pics do not load but they show a S&W 629, 6" BBL with half of the cylinder blown away as well as the top strap. The ammo in the chambers on either side of the top chamber suffered sympathetic detonation as well

A really good reason for not buying cheap ammunition !!

Or anything from China . They are proving this statement to be true. You get what you pay for."

Is there Chinese 44 mag ammo on the US market or is this a semi-hoax?

Sounds like BS to me.

I've never seen Chinese .44 ammo. I don't even know that Wolf makes a .44 round. (Just thinking maybe he bought some Wolf and mistook it for Chinese because of the steel case.)

That pic has been around for a while. IIRC it had nothing to do with chicom ammo, but rather a double charged handload.

Hoax maybe? The only way thats gonna happen to a revolver is if you have the wrong powder, bullet seated to deep, or what I suspect is a double charge. You should have asked him for the ammo. Also, inna revolver, if you have a very light charge in a cartridge, you may or may not notice if the bullet came out of the barrel, and when you go to shoot another, you have an explosion in the barrel, and top strap. etc.

I'm bettin they were handloads and the dummy had no idea what he was doing. Just sayin.

I will believe that that was chinese ammo the day somebody can prove to me that the chinese are loading Hornady XTP hollowpoints.

Bullshit. There's no such thing as Chinese .44 Magnum.

It was, as the above poster said, a thread about double charged handloads where that picture originated.

Looks identical to my old man's .357, that suffered a double charged handload.

The first time I ran across that picture it was a warning about gun show reloads.

I got the email the other day. The bullet that was still partially sitting in the cylinder looked like a Hornady XTP to me. Last I checked, those are not in cheap ammo, regardless of country of origin.
Second, the brass was clean and shiny, none of that cloudy import crap.

This was a clear case of Bubba's handloads gone wrong, but blamed on the Chinese. Don't get me wrong, the Chinese suck at building many, many things, but they're off the hook on this one.
