got board and went to the scrap box yesterday...
changed my mind about modeling the base after the p22. im going to use a 1911 style grip from a paintball gun as a template...
semi auto .22lr with a 15-20 rd mag
thinking about a safety on the slide like the p22 but modified so its easier to manipulate
fire control group will be loosely based off an AR15...
tools being used will be a drill press, a hack saw, some files, and a lathe to turn the barrel (drill a hole in a piece of round stock...) not sure if im going to try and rifle it myself or ream it and press in a sleeve
need a rifled barrel to be legal right? Hence judge and the other earlier 410 revolvers have rifling. no smooth bore under 18".s?

il look into the rifling before i make the barrel but i think a smooth bored handgun will be ok...
410 handguns might be rifled because they can shoot 45 long as well?
so is it just me or did the ATF jack their site up? all i can find is what an NFA weapon is, but i cant find the stuff about legally making a firearm at home...
AOW definition regarding this says smooth bore pistol that is designed to fire a fixed shotgun shell... i hope .22lr shot shells arnt in that grouping...
edit: i emailed the ATF to get a copy of the law regarding the making of non NFA firearms for personal use, i also asked for clarification of whether or not a .22lr pistol with a smooth bore is an AOW due to there being shot shells on the market...
OP - if you are willing to pay shipping, I have a rifle barrel from a .22 you could cut a chunk off of for your project - if you are willing to use a used component.
here is a good site to get a lot of good advice and inspiration from
http://www.prexis.com/sten/homebuilder/index.php
and here is another,
http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi
there is a lot of projects that are home made and ATF safe,
here is one I am building myself,
my home brew pistol

A smooth bored handgun is a no no unless you pay the $200 tax....which is why the Judge has a rifled barrel. Otherwise it would fall into the AOW category.
sorry about the long pause in updates. work gave me 2 days notice before they shipped me out for 3 months...
im back home now and once i get settled in il get back on it.
Sweet looks like an awesome project.
