I purchased a Wilson Combat "drop-In beavertail grip safety for my 70 series, Combat Commander.
Well –– not exactly Drop-in. I've fitted grip safeties before, but never a Wilson. No instructions in the package, and I want to make sure that I don't miss something and screw up the part.
The only place where there seems to be any interference is on the protrusion that engages the trigger bow. I've seen this before but there seems to be quite a bit of extra metal.
Has anybody out there ever fitted the Wilson? Have the instructions? Advice?
Thanks!
I just fitted a Wilson on the 1911 I'm building––I ended up filing the protrusion back until it just barely touched the stop in the frame and it engaged the trigger bow perfectly. Hope that helps....
It's called drop in because you don't have to modify the frame. If you didn't have to fit the part that blocks the trigger, it wouldn't work. It can be easily done with a hand file. Just take your time and keep checking the fit.

I dry-fitted the grip safety and the underside of the protrusion seems to be the main culprit. I won't clear the trigger bow when the trigger is depressed. Probably an easier fix than having to remove a bunch of metal from the tip of the protrusion, which doesn't appear to need too much work. With the help of a caliper, I compared the Wilson protrusion dimensions to a Colt part that works just fine, and can see where I need to file and how much metal to remove.
Thanks to all for your assistance!
