My pistol is shooting slightly to the left....
I have a S&W M&P with fixed rear sights that will need to be adjusted with a hammer and brass punch. If I am holding the pistol in my hand pointing it at the target, do I move the rear sight to my right or to my left.
Thanks in advance.
Gary
Just remember FORS
Forward Site=Opposite Direction.
Rear Site=Same Direction.
Good rule of thumb above.
Nothing to add other than be sure it is the sights and not improper trigger pull.
So I shall be moving my rear sight to the right then...
Correct
I remember it as:
forward site = follow the error
So, if your bullet impact point is going right move the front site to the right, follow it.
Sorry, you are adjusting rear site so
rear site = reverse direction of error
so, yes move it right
Thanks. The pistol is off to the shop for adjustment!
There is math
here for how much to adjust it. I had to look up that thread the other day to get the handy formula that Clown_Gun posted there.
M = (D / R) x S
where:
M = Movement, in inches, needed to correctly zero sights
D = Impact Deviation, in inches (how far the shots are from where they should be)
R = Range to target, in inches
S = Sight radius, in inches
Is the gun shooting left, or is it you?
has anyone else shot it and is it shooting left?
have you shot it off a rest?

I would be happy to bet $50 It's the shooter not the gun.
If you're in the Chicago / Milwaukee area I'd be happy to meet up, shoot your gun using my ammo and prove it.
Get some buddies to shoot it. Don't waste your time and money adjusting the sights.
Mike
You would have lost $50.00!

I had it adjusted and it's dead on. Thanks again for those who offered help.
How much experience do you have shooting the polymer guns. Just because the gun now hits dead on for you dosent mean it shoots dead on. Have seen several guns brought into a buddys shop that shot to the left to be adjusted that shot dead on when test fired. Also seen them with sights cranked way over to the right to compensate for the shooter pushing it to the left
EKU,
I have been shooting Glock product since the mid 90's. This is my first S&W M&P.
