I have a Colt Combat Elite that the plunger tube came flying off while firing recently. The tube popped right back in and fuctions correctly with the safety and slide lock lever, but takes flight again after a few shots. I purchased this gun new, sometime around 1989 and have run thousands of rounds thru it without a problem, the gun is stock. What gives here? Buy a new plunger assembly and pop it on? Is this an issue that requires special tools or a gunsmith would need to handle? Thanks in advance for any light you guys can shed on this.

Common malady on 1911s.
The plunger tube is held on by staking the back side into the mag well––kind of like a rivet.
Your existing tube can be re-staked, but will likely come loose again in time.
Recommend getting a new one and having it properly installed, if done right it will never come off again.
