New DoD .45, or so you say
So I've herd report that the DoD has picked the M&P .45 acp as the new service pistol, replacing Beretta and the 9mm. Supposedly this information was in smith and wessons armorer's newsletter. Frankly I think the report i herd is a false statement. Surly someone has the inside scoop. Any s&w armorers around?
False.

Not true, not in any newsletter.
If this were true, somehow I don't think we would need to go searching for a story verifying it.

Reason #1 I call it bs
I am a fan of M&Ps but there is no need for a new service pistol at this time, especially since Beretta is already under contract for thousands of new M9s and M9A1s.
Beretta signed a contract a year or so ago for another 500,000 units.
S&W is dreaming...
The Army is the only branch that has extended its contract with Barretta. In my opinion the military needs to get rid of the M9 and the 9mm cartridge all together.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the reason we are using 9mm is due to NATO standardization? Hence why countries like Bulgaria now use 5.56 rifles, etc... If this is a correct statement, outside a few specialized units within the U.S. military, I don't see the 9mm going away for a very longtime.
G19s and be done with it...
Yep, I'll be carrying a MP45 with 14rd mags and an M14 with M203 tonight.
