In taking out the safety today a silver part came out and I can't figure out where it came from. It is a bolt looking piece with a round 'bolt head' and smaller diameter 'bolt' with no threads,,,, help please....

I went through the same thing when I was removing the mag disconnect from mine. S&W does not release exploded diagrams becasue they don't want people making "unsafe" modifications to the weapons that they bought. I have looked every that I can think of and have not found one. I just took it apart and taught myself. Is the part that you're describing the post that the thumb safety lever was attached to?

I figured it out. It is the plunger for the spring that cocks the hammer. How it came out I don't know. I had to disassemble the entire pistol to get it back in. I had to check on to work so when I get up I will reassmble it...

I got it all back together yesterday. I am still scratching my head trying to figure out how the plunger came out. (I only removed the rear pin and lifted out the housing far enough to pop the two safety levers off. Oh well, it is together with no extra parts laying around and it passed a bazillion function tests.

Thanks for this link, it didn't help for my problem, but I saved it cause it has a ton of armorers manuals...
