S&W 39-2?
hello all,
i have an offer to trade for a S&W 39-2. I've done the googling and it seems like a nice gun. Anyone own one? how do you like it? whats it worth?
thanks
I have no advise to give here, except that the 39 is one of my favorite older S&W. If you end up with it, I bet you will like it.
I have a Model 39-2 from the mid 70's and is the first pistol I carried as a LEO. Most people seem to like the shape of the grip however the Model 39 was improved to the 2nd generation Model 439 and the 3rd generation 3904. The model 39 & 39-2 are the first DA/SA pistols to be adopted by Law Enforcement in the US. The Walther P38/P-1 and Walthers had been carried in Europe since prior to WW II where traditionally revolvers had been carried by US law enforcement. From the historical perspective the model 39-2 makes a nice collectors piece and is enjoyable to shoot. For home protection the Model 39 is fine however for every day police use there are really better more reliable designs on the market.
My first CC was 39-2. It was a good platform for qualification for me at the time and being a single stack, made for ease of concealment. I wish I still had mine.
Have owned one for twenty years or more. Always liked it, the grip fits my hand better than just about anything out there.
Going rate for nice ones is low to mid 300 range typically. They don't seem to be real hot sellers.
I think that it was cool to get a beat up one and set it up as a VN era Hushpuppy with threaded barrel and supressor.
Great guns, my 39-2 is a early 70's gun. For a single stack 9mm they are a great bargain though prices have started to climb for nice examples as people rediscover them. A good condition used 39 $275-350 range, spare early type factory mags are also getting hard to find for them.
thanks for the replys all. anyone know where to get some factory mags for it? I know midway has some 9rds but at $32 i'll pass
