Dead Trigger has claimed my M&P. <sigh> Looking forward to the good folks at Apex Tactical returning her to me shortly!

Sorry for your loss ;) the Apex parts are amazing!!! so you'll be happy in the long run.

out of curiosity, what was the round count? or do you think this was just from general breakage/failure?

Round cound was about 1000. I had the Apex upgrades install by my gun smith when I got the pistol 15 months ago. From what I've read on the boards, this generation M&P needs a plunger upgrade. I'm hoping that's all there is to it. I will report back once I hear from Apex.

I have a spare sear block at Apex getting drilled out for the new plunger.

I have done that to all of my older M&P's with the small plunger hole.

When they are done, buy a few more plungers and springs for your parts box.

Was it a broken trigger spring (the spring you can see in front of the trigger from the top of the frame)? Mine broke too (after lots more rounds). Apex were really good about sending me free-of-charge spares... I guess they had some that weren't made right. I installed a RAM after that so that the gun would be shootable even if it broke again (just have to manually push the trigger forwards for each shot).

Just got the call from the good folks at Apex. They have performed the upgrade to the plunger and the pistol is on it's way back home! I will update the thread after I get it back and head out to the range.

I just got my M&P 9C this week, and got the apex duty kit installed first time it came out of the box. Is there a problem with the kits or is this a. Abnormal occurance?

There was an issue with older M&Ps as I've learned. It really had nothing to do with Apex. S&W has since upgraded the plunger in all their new M&P's. If you have a new gun, i would not be concerned.

Anybody have a primer on identifying if you have the new or old plunger?

The old plunger is .067 in diameter. If you have a older M&P, say one made more than a few years ago, it's a safe bet that you have a ole style plunger.

The one sure way is to take out the sear block, take out the sear and use a pair of dial calipers to measure the plunger.

I had an unpleasant surprise back in the spring when I picked up a brand new M&P9 from Bud's Police Supply - it came with a small plunger. I'm just waiting until I have over 1000 rounds through it before I send the sear block in for drilling. I did install a RAM right away to tide me over and give me a better reset, so it's tolerable for now. The moral of the story is that there may still be small hole M&Ps in the supply chain.

Apex drilled my old 40c last year, the trigger with the DCAEK and RAM is fantastic.

I think S&W had some old stock laying around and built them. I also bought a full size 9mm not that long ago (maybe 6 months) and it had the small sear spring setup. I purchased a new sear block housing from midway last week and it had the larger sear spring. I am going to swap it out and send in the old housing to Apex. I purchased a new 9c yesterday and it has the larger sear spring in it.

Can I ask what the Midway part number is of the sear block you ordered and what version M&P you have? I have a full sized with no mag safety and no thumb safety. I tried to get a sear block from Brownell's a few months ago but could never get the right part.

Thanks!

Yes, it will have the smaller plunger.

You can call S&W and ask them. I bet they would update it with a newer sear block.
