Removing Mag Disconnect on 84?

We just picked up a new 84 for my wife and she loves it so far. The only complaint I have about it is the mag disconnect...
Does anybody know how to remove this?

Remove the right grip panel.
Remove the spring (and linkage????) for the disco.
A guy on the Beretta forum said you don't remove the linkage on the -84, but I don't have an -84 so I can't tell what leaving it in does.
