 92SB and 92FS.....what's the difference?

Local shop had an Italian made 92SB in the case. Looks like it had been dropped once...ding (about the size of the ball of a ball-point pen) on one side of the front of the frame...along with a couple of scrapes down the slide pointed towards the ding. Otherwise a nice looking pistol. I'm not in the market for one, but had them show it to me just to see. Wood grips made it look nice, and for someone...I didn't think the $400 price was too bad.

What is the difference between the 92SB and FS?

((This gun had an import stamp...IA CO SAC CA on the front part of the frame...I'm assuming thats IA {the company name}, Company, Sacramento, California?)). Had an original manual and some kind of 'flocked' (Velvet looking) case to go with it.

the SB was the model that Beretta submitted for the U. S. Army acceptance trials, the FS was the one the Army adopted after some changes to the SB.

I'm not sure what all of them where but I had an SB and it had a straight grip not flared out at the bottom of the mag well, I'm sure there were others but that one is the most notable.

Pics I saw had a rounded trigger guard (however, I don't recall exactly what the one in the gunstore looked like).

Any rarity to them (collectablity)?

Thanks!

yup, that's right they have a round trigger guard too, without the grip serrations on the front. I would guess that there must be some collect-ability, mine had much better fit and finish than the FS model. I know all of the SBs were made in Italy.

92S and 92SB were blued and had round trigger guard. They also had the magazine safety moved from the heel to the rear of the trigger guard.

92S didn't have firing pin block
92SB had firing pin block. Submitted for Air Force Testing
92F is the 92SB modified (92SB-F) for U.S. (F)ederal testing. Mods include combat trigger guard, Bruniton coating, chrome bore, reshaped grip
92FS added the enlarged hammer pin head and associated grove into slide to prevent a broken slide coming off the rear of the frame and hitting the shooter.

Thanks.

That's it....take the top one, slap on some nice Beretta wood grips, and that would be what was in the shop. Compared like that (finish wear aside)...the SB looks 'sleeker'.

Yep. A bit nicer condition on the grips (can't tell on the metal) with the exception of the ding/scratches.
