I'm looking at some used LA County SD 92 trade ins. Most where made between 88-90 and range from $369-415 depending on condition. What say ye, should I consider one of these or fork over the $625 for a M9A1?

I would opt instead for a gently used FS, IMO. Check CDNN for them, they have them somewhat often.

They are cosmetically beat from what I've seen. I'd cap it at $330 in my hands for one of those. Otherwise, another $100-$130 or so will get you an FS in really great shape. Mechanics are fine generally on the duty guns though.

+1 the FS has an additional safety to prevent a cracked slide from flying off the frame and hitting you in the face - eye.

Seems like a good thing to have.

Keep an eye on Gunbroker, snagged my FS for under $400.

The older 92F is perfectly good to shoot.

When you buy the thing,

I would seriously completely strip the pistol down and replace all the springs. Give it a very good cleaning behind the extractor and firing pin channel as both these areas will attract junk from shooting and can not be routinely cleaned.

Inspect it for cracked slide and cracked locking block as shown in the sticky posted at the top in this forum
