Actually, the SS (Inox) models are made both in Italy and Beretta USA. My stainless 92FS is USA made. If I'm not mistaken, the only difference is that the Italian guns have stainless small parts/controls and the USA guns have black. That's been my observation anyway. And as far as quality goes, I believe there is NO difference between the USA and Italian guns. The build quality of the two American 92's I've owned is outstanding. I've always been impressed with the quality of these guns considering the very reasonable cost.

note: I think maybe the Italian guns come with a steel guide rod as opposed to the plastic one in the USA made ones. I did swap out the plastic for a ss piece in mine, but that was just preference and I like the weight in the front. I've never heard of any performance issues with the plastic rod.

Beretta 92 =

from my experience, everything you have stated is true.

EDIT- mine and another US made one I know of also have the plastic guide rod.

My older 92 Inox is US-made. Only plastic parts on it are the grip panels, but it's probably close to 10 years old.

Yeah, that's just their proprietary name for their stainless finish.

And as to your comment Bob, I have noticed just as many Italy made stainless 92's out there as American ones in recent years as well. Much more so than I used to see anyway.

Might be the circles we travel in or maybe different regional distributors? Regardless, all of the Inox models I fondle at gun shows are eye-talian. Maybe we're a bit more discriminating here in TN on our Inox models?

I think you're on to something there sir. Very likely.

And, I sure do like the stainless controls on those Italians. A bit cleaner looking, IMO.
