 92FS Grips Question

I recently purchased a used 92FS, according to the SN, it was manufactured in 1996. I wanted to change out the grips, so I ordered a new set from Beretta. I tried to put them on, but I discovered a problem. The old grips have sloted screws, and the holes for the grips themselves are smaller. It looks like there is an inner screw that screws into the frame, and then the grips sit on top of them and the sloted screws then screw into the inner screws holding the grips on. The new grips have a larger hole, which goes over the inner screw altogether and if I try to screw on the new grips, the sloted screws go so far into the handle that I can no longer get the magazine to fit in the well! I have to loosen the screws which makes the grips rattle in order to get the magazine to fit in the well.

Is there a different set of screws that fit the new grips that I need to get? I saw a set of new grip screws with a washer, there are no washers in the current set. I am guessing that if I take out the inner screws and get the new screws with the washers it will work? Any ideas anyone?

There should be a set of external tooth lock washers. 1 on each screw.

After reading your post, all I can say is

The 92 has bushings on the frame that screw into it & the grip panel screws go into the bushings.

I too have used replacement grips on my 92s & sometimes I had to remove the star washers in order to get the screws to fit flush with the grips.

Post pics of your gun if you don't get the answers you need/want.

With mine if I use the stock plastic grip panels without the washers I have the same issue, the screws go all the way through into the mag well. With my Houge grips I have to remove the washers or the screws stick out beyond the face of the grip.
