Sig 290

Whats the deal on these little guns? Almost bought one today but ended up with an LC9 instead, I dont know if i should get one in the future.

The general consensus? Good to go? Or still having problems and working through wrinkles?

Another question, dealer at gunshow insisted the 290 is made in Germany when it said "Made in Exeter NH" is there something im missing here?

My P290 is great! 1k+ rnds without a problem. I also have 1 of the first Editions (serial # 1-2000).
Only trouble is there are limited holsters made for it, but I found a couple that work.

BTW I also own a Kimber Solo with Laser grip.

IMHO

The P290 eats anything I feed it, the Kimber needs 124/147gr, The Solo gets FTEs often without the right ammo.
The Kimber is 2x the price and NOT 2x the performance. But guns are like cars - fire em both. See what you like.

Hey Klaatu, what holsters did you find? I just bought a P290 and am just starting to look for accessories. I haven't even been to the range to shoot it yet, maybe this weekend.

I took my p290 and Beretta Nano to the range today both performed great, but the more I shoot my little sig the more I like it. I put about 225 rounds through the p290 this time and thats after I put 100 rounds through it a couple of weeks ago and put in it in the safe without cleaning it. I don't know if any of the other micro nines can go through 325 rounds without cleaning or oiling and keep running the way the p290 does. This is the first time I have shot the p290 and Beretta in the same range session.. The Beretta is a lot snappier and slower on follow up shots, but very accurate. The p290 trigger is pretty crappy but it is fun to shoot. The p290 is very fast on the follow up shots which surprised me considering the trigger. I now have over 700 rounds through the p290 since I had to send it back to sig to fix the trigger reset problem. After today I now have enough confidence in the p290 to start carrying it.non

Purchased one yesterday and put about two hundred rounds thru it. It's a great little gun not to snappy like most small guns and very accurate. It came with the regular 6 round mag and the extended one. The extended one gives you a full grip but at that size I will just carry my glock 26 the normal mag is what I will use when I carry it. Like reported the trigger takes some getting used to but after a few rounds it wasn't an issue. I bought it as a small carry and am surprised at how well it shoots and how accurate it is. Overall it's a great gun and it ate a bunch cheap ammo without issue. If sig made the trigger a little better I think this little gun would dominate the small gun market. I got a good deal on it the p290 with laser and extended mag for 479.00

I also love my P290. I got one with a laser on it. I've had it for about 6 months, and never had a problem with it. The early ones they had trigger problems with, but they got that corrected. I love carrying a full 9mm in a pocket pistol. It feels good in my hand, and the recoil is not bad. Not nearly as bad as my Airweight S&W.

With the laser it is kinda har to find a holster. High Noon has a holster for it, but not if it has a laser on it. They are going to release one shortly they told me. Right now I use a Remora holster with Reinforced Top that is either a pocket, or a inside the belt holster.

Confirm, the P290 is built in Exeter, NH, USA.
Also confirm, at least my copy has 100% function with all varieties of 9mm ammunition.
Sights are nice and bright, and well regulated from the factory, trigger is very smooth.
Probably the nicest out of the box DAO trigger I have found.
Nice little pocket 9.

I think I am going to have to get one of these, local shop has a pretty good deal on them at the moment and one is calling my name.

From what I understand, Sig changed the trigger on the 290 from the first edition to a traditional DAO. Anyone know if the newer trigger is the standard now shipping?

As I said in my post. I've had mine for about 6 months and has never missed a round in firing. So it appears they have it corrected.

a couple 290's just showed up at the local fun shop. $479 with night sights. I guess I should pick one up for the wife.
One thing I couldn't figure though is if the trigger is supposed to be able to work like a regular double action where if you have a hard primer you can just squeeze the trigger again? It seemed like you can only get the hammer to drop once then it doesn't reset?

No, it has to move the slide about 1/2" before you can pull the trigger again.

So it isn't really like a true double action only which is fine, dump the bad round and get a fresh round in the chamber and continue

I have no idea if this is true and when the new trigger will be available. But I might not jump the very next SIG 290 that crosses my way...

That is the reason the pull is light, is it is pre-cocked. A true DAO will have a heavier trigger pull.

I am going to wait for the next gen with true DAO and lighter trigger

Uh, the lighter trigger pull is on the one out now. "Pre-cocked"

Well either way it will be a nice tackle box gun.

the P290 really is a nice pocket 9.
Best one I have handled yet.
They ship it with both a 6 round magazine, for compact carry, and an 8 round extended mag, for range use.
Also, the night sights are good and bright, as good as any combat sights.
Overall, a perfect mini 9mm.

I didn't realize they come with a paddle holster and laser at the $479 price, I was pretty happy thinking it just had night sights for that price !

Yep, you stole that one for sure. If for some reason, it is old stock, and you do have the early trigger problem, contact Sig and they will take care of it, and it will not have anymore problems out of it......

Or you can sell it to me for what you paid for it........

A couple of them just came into the store this last week from the distributor, they both sold today, just not at the same price

I shot a bunch out of it today, from 115 to 147 grain, FMJ and HP.
Will take a bit to get used to the long trigger after the sweetness my Glock 26 trigger.
I see Crossbreed holster company makes the Minituck IWB for this model, may have to pick it up for summer carry.

Link provided in this thread quotes Sig sources as saying the new trigger will be true DAO with second strike capability and have a lighter pull than the current configuration. Article also mentions an upgrade program for first run guns.

That's how I read it too, figured I would take advantage of the close out price and do the upgrade when it becomes available .
I put another 300 through it this morning and I may not bother since I am finding the sweet spot on the trigger, for my best groups I have the first joint of the trigger finger on the trigger and use a quick snap rather than a slow press.
