Yes, it is a problem. If the mag is empty, it is not a problem dropping a mag. Add a few rounds, and it is VERY difficult to press the magazine release. My advise would be to see if the shop you bought it from will swap it for a STANDARD (i.e. non-ambi) Glock 21SF. Do this BEFORE you shoot the gun as they may not take it back after it is shot. Otherwise you could send it to Glock and request they swap the frame for a standard mag release 21SF. Only thing is that you'll have a Franken gun, with a frame that has one serial number and a barrel/slide with another...

This is common. I sent my ambi mag release 21SF back and had it replaced with a standard release. Contact Glock and see what they say.

I sent all my Glocks to Aerotek in Washington state for their larger mag release. It's AWESOME.

IMO - the mag release on Glocks are crap and WTF took them so long to come up with the changeable backstraps?

I've got a 21SF w/ambi I bought maybe two years ago and put aprox 20 rnds through it and that was it, slapped an X200 on it and that was my night stand pistol. I have a Wilson CQB that got all my attention but I recently decided that I hit better with my glock as that was basically the pistol I learned on, had a 21 since late 90s. I tend to hit low with the 1911.

So anyway back on topic, should I call glock and request a frame change? I mean the mag falling out in a life and death situation is a pretty catastrophic failure.

If you get the ball rolling, you should have it back before April. My turn around time was a little over a week.

I doubt putting more rounds through the gun will make the mag catch any smoother................possibly using the mag catch alot, that is, a hundred mag changes or so...........hard to say.

I for one would have no interest in having that ambi mag catch. If someone gave me a G21SF with it, I'd immediately send it to Glock for frame replacement, whatever the cost. But that's just me.

There was a Glock day at my range in St. Ann's Ontario (Silverdale Gun Club) and I was so impressed with the handling and shooting characteristics of the weapon that I went to the range gun shop and purchased one from my friend the owner. I got a military discount but not as low as my American brothers due to our border import duties etc. Be that as it may, when I picked up my pistol a week or two later I discovered to my horror that the ambi mag release required my two thumbs to use with a loaded magazine.
I attempted to return it but the Glock representative in Canada(distributor for all of Canada) told me to sell it at a loss and he would sell me the non-ambi model. Glock Inc in Smyrna said no problem to the replacement but the Canadian distributor said no!
What a world of difference between the way Glock treats their customers and the way Glock in Canada treats theirs. I bought my pistol about two or three months ago and shot it once and it has been sitting at the Distributors shop the rest ot the time.
Hope the problem is solved soon.

not really...they worked as designed. it was never designed to be a competition style release. i would like to know what took them so long to come up with the gen4 release though. it's sweet.
