Do I need a new spring/guide rod for my G20?

Im in the process of making a few additions to my stock glock 20 towards the end of making it a "hunting gun". I had a Burris FastFire installed on the slide, ordered a LoneWolf 6" barrel and will be feeding it a steady diet of 165 grain and 180 grain Gold Dot's or XTP's. After doing a little reading last night it seems that some guys who go this same route opt to get a lighter/heavier spring for their guns. I have yet to shoot my gun at this point so it may very well run just fine but would i be well advised to just buck up and get a new spring now?

Did you get a chance to check out my 20 at the last Magcamp??

My 20 has a 6" KKM and Wolf 20# spring and steel rod. That said, some of the 10mm I have fired wouldn't even be considered 10mm rounds. I had some fun show reloads that were very light and the 20# spring worked fine for those and my much hotter reloads. I think its just a good, but not needed precaution for shooting hotter round to get a 20/22# spring.

It also has polished internals and an aftermarket trigger spring and connector of some kind, don't really remember. I think the trigger pull is probably a little too light, but getting more used to it.

With this setup I crono'd some reloads and factory ammo. My choice for factory stuff if you can find it would be the Hornady "Custom" (same looking box as the Critical defense) 180gr XTP. I also reload something that is almost identical to this with the 180gr XTP's. After running through my reloads I found that my sweet spot with this bullet was almost identical to the factory "custom" stuff. Only I had a slightly higher FPS but not much. The second choice for factory ammo is Winchester Silver tip 175gr. As it was closest to published FPS. Even in a 6" barrel a lot of the factory stuff doesn't even get to the published FPS(unless they test with a carbine barrel )

I haven't really messed with lighter grain bullets yet as for hunting I wanted the heavy stuff.

I have also been thinking about getting a case of Winchester .40 cal ranger Bonded HP 180gn and pulling the bullets to work up something with them.

I go by Wolff Springs' guidelines. If your G20 is ejecting brass further than about 8', then you could use a stronger spring. If the brass is barely clearing the slide, then use a lighter spring. I run at least a 20# spring in my G20. Don't remember which I use in the G29, but it's stronger than factory-standard. The only Glocks I use standard spring weight with are my 9mm Glocks and one of my G21s that's running a compensated KKM barrel.

I didnt but it sounds like we have similar taste's. I think what im gonna do is just play it by ear. Once I get my hands on the LW barrel, Ill take it to the range and see if I have any problems with feeding or ejection and pay attention to where my brass is ending up and then asess the situation from there. Now if I could just find a place that had 6" G20 LW barrels in stock

Lonewolf has their G20 6.6" threaded barrel in stock. If you bought the comp with it, you could try it comp'd and non-comp'd.

Oh and I also upgraded the sights. It came to me(used) with Truglo TFO's. I didn't find them adequate for hunting. I got a Dawson Front post and Novak Adjustable rear. Filed the front for 25yrd POA/POI. Then it is easy to adjust the rear out to 50. I was kind of rushed that day and didn't fine tune anything, but was still hitting ~8" groups.
