Walther PPK or similar sized pistol carry
Tell me everything about CCW'ing one.
I'd like to get one in .380 (PPK, not PPK/S) for pocket carry in pants with large pockets, and OWB at other times. Not looking to IWB it for the most part. Does anyone have experience with how well they carry like that? (particularly in pocket).
I know the pros and cons of the caliber so I don't really need advice on that...I also have a larger pistol for carry at other times, and don't want to go any smaller, as I want it to be something more comfortable to put rounds through for practice.
Thanks!
I love my Walther PPS in .40. It's not quite an inch wide and does fit nicely IWB.
Now that Hornady Critcial Defense is available, the .380 is a viable weapon, so a Sig .380 is a great weapon, with the right ammo.
As i tell my customers regularly,..."The toughest thing about carrying a pistol, is carrying a pistol"
Figure it out, practice pulling from that carry position and practice practice practice.
I have a Bersa Thunder .380 which is a PPK clone. While it conceals wonderfully IWB, I found it to be too big for comfortable pocket carry. You would need very large pockets and overly baggy pants. If you really want something in .380 for pocket carry, I would look at some of the dedicated platforms out there like the P3AT or LCP or any number of other guns that have hit the market.
Wasn't really a big fan of how the PPS feels - plus the paddle mag release, which I'm sure I could get used to, but it'd be easier if I stuck with a pistol in similar configuration as my others.
The various pocket pistols just aren't my speed either. The LCP in particular I was interested in...but the sights are so minimal, and I'd prefer something with a bit more heft. The Sig P238 was pretty nice, seemed like I might actually be able to comfortably put enough ammo through it to get decent with it, had excellent sights, and was a good size. The only thing I didn't like about it was the safety, which I don't mind in theory, but in practice it was too hard for my fat thumbs to hit it reliably.
The PPK had decent sights, and even allowed a full-grip. Plus, it's just classy. That said, if it won't fit with a holster in a jean pocket, it's not doing me much good. Might be easier to carry OWB with just a t-shirt, though.
My PPK is too heavy to pocket carry. It's simply too much steel. And since S&W made mine, the rear sights are sharp and tend to snag on stuff.
The minimal sights complaint is common with pocket guns, but you have little choice, because the alternative is a trashed pocket and a tangle the one time you actually need it.
I agree the PPK is just too heavy to pocket carry comfortably, also for it's size there are 9mms and 40 s&w of similar size. I would look at the Ruger LCP or Keltec P3AT for pocket carry in 380.

No LCP or Kel-Tecs for me. I really like the Sig P238/938, but they are quite expensive and I'm not sure about the safety.
I did pick up a leather OWB holster for my Beretta 92 yesterday though, and despite it being a fairly cheap, low riding holster, I printed minimally with an open button up shirt over it and not at all with a medium weight jacket, so I might be able to get away with just a t-shirt with something smaller (Glock 19?).
