Do you worry about getting your carry gun dirty/wet?
Today we ended up at the spray park with the kids and I ended up soaked. I thought about the G19 on my hip but knew there wouldn't be any issues with it getting wet. I pulled it apart tonight just to be sure there wasn't any water sitting in it (there wasn't). I got to thinking about when I used to carry a custom 1911 and knew that at that time I probably wouldn't have done the same thing.
How much do you worry about your carry gun getting wet, dirty or banged up?
As long as H&K are still selling the USPc,I don't worry about it.
As long as my MP .45c or my Sig P238 still goes bang, I have no worries. Scratches on my ratchets give them character.
No, I carry a Glock.
You can SCUBA dive with it.

Exactly what I was thinking.
I don't care at all. Guns you carry will get holster wear, wet, dirty, sweaty and so forth. Just maintain your weapon by cleaning it every once in a while and you'll be fine. I shoot and clean my carry guns once a week or so.
I could care less, and I carry a 1911 RIA with a ton of wear on it from doing a bazzilion presentations. If it's gets super sweaty I unload it, spray it down with *gasp* WD-40, Starrets M1, or Ballistol, load it and re-holster after wiping it down.
It depends on the gun. I would not want a blue Colt Python to get wet.
I just got back from a trip to Moab where we rafted down the Colorado River which is at a 30 year high level. Well my Glock 29 SF was totally soaked and it was a while before I could quickly shake out a lot of water from it. I also put it in the sun to dry out whatever water was still in it. The sun got it almost too hot to touch as it was about 93 degrees that day and with bright sun. Never had a problem with it after that and no rust at all. These guns are not pretty like the Python or a bright stainless Delta Elite except in a "form follows function" way. In that way they are as beautiful as any pistol made.
I have shot my guns in rain sleet and snow, if a little water gets on them, or a little dirt,......i clean them.
My carry gun these days is a Colt Series 80 in stainless steel. No issues with it.
My fishing gun used to be a Ruger Speed Six .357 in stainless steel. It got submerged regularly and was carried in a zip pocket in my bibs. Never any issues with it. I'd just bring it home, tear it down, stick the parts on a cookie pan in the oven at 200 F, take a shower, pull the cookie pan out of the oven, let it cool, lube it, put it back together, load it up, put it in my pocket and walk to work. Never any issus with it.
Carry the right gun and there won't be any issues as long as you take care of it when you should.
Even hunting with blued guns and woods stocks, just wipe them down when done and then take them out of the case as soon as you get home to dry and clean/oil.
All good.
The kimber sees plenty of weather and elements. It is what it is. I take it home and wipe it down and the world keeps spinning.
I used to carry a matte blued 1911 IWB. Dufing the summer i would oil it in the morning, and clean it every night.
Now with my G17, i wipe sweat off it when i take it out of the holster every night.

Glock and my other 3 Gun gear,, rifle and shotgun,,, swim ready!
sooner or later you have to clean them,,, hot soapy water,,, does a real good job!
No.
Neither my 1911 or SW360PD mind getting dirty or wet.
I carry a Glock, so no. I don't even care if it gets scratched, as it is a tool, unlike some posters here.
Nope. I carry a G26.
Went to an all day ball tournament a few weekends ago. It was over 100 with index and humid (Louisiana).
Both days I had some kind of muddy sweat substance that had collected in the slide at the muzzle end.
No problems, wiped it off and put it back in holster. I did use put a bit of veggy oil on it since I didn't have a cleaning kit.
I raised my gun better than that.
Not at all. I carry a G19.
if you have a particular gun you are scared to get dirty or wet, it should not be your carry gun then. they will get wet sweaty dirty- it is the life of a carry gun. And I do NOT buy in to the hype I have seen here and elsewhere about keeping a carry gun military white glove inspection detail strip it every time clean. if you can't trust it even a little dirty, get a gun you can.
Glock for me as well - I don't worry about it.
Nope. Not a worry here because my carry gun is a Glock early Model 22.
However while hunting I carry a very old (pre M36) S&W .38 5 shot loaded w/ 2 shot shells then 3 lead RN's. Copperheads & Rattle snakes are an issue an maybe a rabid critter. That gun will get dusty every time & wet some times. So it gets a little love after a weekend of hunting.
7mm
nope...
my CCW is a glock 23....and i eat, sleep, shower and shit with it........and is stone cold-reliable

All my hanguns are of quality
dirt/sand/water
no worries

Good gun, I carried a USP40c for a while. Didn't worry about that one either.
I have to clean it either way. No worries. It was to rust that fast, I must really be messing up.
RIA 1911 or my Walther P99 (Walt doesn't rust, he gets dust bunnies though!)
Mine have plenty of character marks.
YMMV
Nope, I don't. But with that said, I do not go out of my way to abuse it either

Nope.
I was carrying a Kimber Ultra Carry II on me one day when an suv decided to go off the road in front of me, hit a telephone pole and go straight into a pond. Now the pond wasn't very deep and the suv was not in danger of going under but I was the first one there and I didn't even think and just waded in while talking to the driver, not thinking at all about my gun. Well long story short, the guy was ok, the suv was totaled and when I got home I got my gun out of my kydex holster and saw a hazy mess of a gun. There was pond scum all over it as well as all the ammo. I just did a detail strip of the slide and a good cleaning, cleaned the mag and threw in some fresh ammo and was good to go.
That being said, I have been carrying a Glock 19 for over a year now and these days, my Glock gets soaked from sweat every day, it was in the mid 90's today with 70+% humidity today and is supposed to stay that way for the next week or more so it's going to get moist tomorrow too. Just check your ammo and gun for any signs of excess moisture but you should be fine under most circumstances....
Glock 23 on my hip. Can't fuck it up.

^^^^^
I've worn several to 6 flags and Sea World and gotten wet, the Glock had no issues, my Browning actually had surface rust (the wet looking filmy layer) when I took it off at the end of the day, but a quick tear apart and oil wipe down removed everything, my Hard-chromed 1911 had no issues either, not even the Novak sights (which I expected to be more like the Browning.
Maintain and clean your equipment and you'll be fine.
Never worry about it. I just maintain as needed. My next pistol purchase is a parkerized Colt 1991a1. Parkerized 1911's have been toted in every environment imaginable and served well.
Never worry about it.
Glock, no worries.

LOL
Baer 1911. Not worried. Regular cleaning intervals with no problems.

At a UFC fight I poured 32 ounces of ice cold mountain dew perfectly unto my holstered Glock 17 and holster. I rinsed it in a sink full of soaking dishes then ran water from the tap all over to get the soap off, I then hosed the whole thing down with wd40 and wiped it off with a couple paper towels. That was like 2 years ago and it is fine.
Got through into a pool while carrying my Glock 17 also and it was fine after I rinsed it off and then sprayed and wiped it down.
Goes back to what I do to pay the bills.... G23 in a Smart carry under my shorts! Lawn clippings, dirt, sweat, dirt, human/animal shit, dirt, household crap, dirt, dip under the garden hose, dirt, jump in stream/river, dirt, sweat all over again.... Do I care, not really... Tear it down and lube it weekly and it drops a mag just fine.... Even the Crimson Trace Laser keeps up just fine... Just gotta remember to clean the lint/dust out of the sight to keep it tits on!
Nope, I maintain them well and clean and lube them regularly.
I wouldn't worry about the gun, but I probably rotate the ammo out just to be safe.
Good defensive ammo will be sealed but its cheap insurance.
Not in the slightest. It's all stainless and plastic. I've been carrying for years in the rain, ridiculous summer heat and humidity, and whatever else. I take it into the woods, on the motorcycle, anywhere that's legal. Never been a problem.
The only place I've ever seen any rust was a small spot on the rear sight where the coating wore off from the holster.
Az
Wet...no.
Dirty...absolutely. I'll check it periodically for lint and blow it out or re-lube, as necessary. If I'm going to trust my life to it, I'll damn well make sure it's running properly, no different from my car.
I was shooting and standing in the rain for hours on Saturday without incident.

Yep me too. No offense to the 1911 guys, because I like my 1911's but I doubt I'd be so carefree with the fancy 1911 that I'm currently saving money to buy.
I don't beat it up intentionally but if it happens get wet or dirty it no big deal. It's a Glock after all.
I carry either a Glock 17 or Springer GI 1911 in all conditions. I don't thrash them intentionally, but if they get dirty, I clean off any grime at the end of the day.
Any mechanical item requires occasional maintenance. Know your weapon system and shoot it often and you won't have a problem

Almost every pistol I own has some type of ferritic nitrocarburizing treatment (Tenifer/Melonite QPQ/Isonite Q, etc), including my favorite, the 1911 shown below. I don't worry a bit about getting my sidearms wet, but I do blow them out with compressed air, and clean them frequently, for my own satisfaction.
Nope. My G19 I'm really not worried about, the 642 I wipe off with some oil after I get home if it got wet.
